Instructions

Test period 90 minutes for Part I and Part II as a whole. We recommend that you do not
use more than 30 minutes on the first part. Manage your time properly and
according to the weight of the problem.

Resources Graphic calculator (only part II), formula sheet, your personalised formula
booklet, ruler, protractor, and a lexicon.

The test For all items a single answer is not enough. It is also expected
that you write down what you do
that you explain/motivate your reasoning
that you draw any necessary illustrations.
There are G-level alternatives to some VG-level problems. In case you are
not able to solve the VG-problem, try to solve the alternative G-level
problem. You are not going to get credit for both the problem and its
alternative. Therefore, if you are sure about your solutions to the VG-level
problem, do not waste your time in solving its G-alternative.
Score and The maximum score is 37 points, of them 16 VG points. There are 3 -
marked problems
G: At least 12 points
VG: At least 21 points including at least 6 Vg points
MVG: At least 23 points including at least 12 Vg points, and 3 different
MVG qualities are demonstrated.

In each case, show how you arrived at your answer by clearly indicating all of the necessary
steps, formula substitutions, diagrams, graphs, charts, units, significant figures. etc. Do not
forget to specify Units. Give attention to significant figures. In none of problems
measurement from the figure is valid.

Part II
This part consists of 6 problems (note that there are 3G-level alternatives to 3 VG-level
problems (and one MVG-level problem) . You may use a calculator when solving them.
The problem 15 is heavily graded and is of greatest importance.
Please note that you may begin working on part II without a calculator.

6. Solve the simultaneous equations:

= +
= +
x y
x y
3 38 4
14 2 3
. [2/0]

Choose either problem number 7 (VG-level) or problem number 8 (G-level). You have only
one choice:

7. Where does the line 1 = +
b
y
a
x
cut the coordinate axis? [0/2]
8. Where does the line 0 6 3 2 = + x y cut the coordinate axis? [2/0]

Choose either problem number 9 (MVG-level) or problem number 10 (VG-level) or problem
number 11 (VG-level). You have only one choice:

9. Find ( ) x f if ( ) 3 5 7 3
2
+ = + x x x f . [0/2/M135]
10. Find ( ) 11 f if ( ) 3 5 7 3
2
+ = + x x x f . [0/2]
11. Find ( ) 2 f if ( ) 3 5
2
+ = x x x f . [2/0]

Choose either problem number 12 (VG-level) or problem number 13 (G-level). You have
only one choice:

12. The point ( ) c c 8 , is on the curve of the function ( )( ) 7 3 + = x x y . Find c and
therefore, the coordinates of the point. [0/3]
13. The point ( ) 2 , 1 lies on the line 5 = kx y .
a. Determine the value of the slope of the line, k , and therefore the equation of the line.
[1/0]
b. Find the equation of the line that passes through the point ( ) 2 , 1 and is normal to the
line found above. [2/0]

When evaluating your work in solving problems 13 and 14, your teacher will take into
consideration:
What mathematical knowledge you present
How well you carry out your calculations
How well you investigate and describe the strategies
How well you present and comment on your work
14. For which value of the constant c , the curve
c x x y + + = 6
2

has its minimum on the x-axis? Make a rough graph of the function in your exam-sheet.

15. An architect designs a park with an entrance represented by point A and a circular
garden with center O as illustrated in the figure below. The architect plans to connect
three points on the circumference of the garden, B , C , and E to the park entrance, A,
with walkways AB , AC , BO, CO, and ADOE. The walkways AB and AC are
tangent to the garden, and the walkway ADOE is a straight path through the centre of
the park. m AB AC 0 . 60 = = , and m AD 6 . 43 = . The measure of the major arc BEC
to the measure of the minor arc BDC is as 3 to 2. i.e. 2 : 3 : = mBDC mBEC .
Find the diameter of the circle garden as well as the measure of the angle between
walkways AB and AC , i.e. Using two independent methods find measure of the angle
