artist’s statement

to god be the glory because my achievements today is attributed and recorded to

my parents efforts if not, i will be nowhere to be found. i acquired knowledge
enormously throughout the course of the assistance i rendered to them during my
childhood days. it will sound incredible that at age of nine (9) i got myself tied and
logically apprenticed to my parents learning how to wax “adire”, batik and bead painting
from my parents. i was attracted to beauty of colours and i furbished myself with a strong
sense of colour mixture and blending, the interest that intensified my flair in latter artistic
sojourn.
“ teach the child the good ways that when he/she grows up, he may not depart
from them”. i gave credence of these words to the sage, in the world of arts. laziness and
idleness will only bring forth trail of evil thoughts and condemnation. my parents will
never allow his issues to be swayed away by idleness, thus, in the early eighties just
exactly when i was in senior secondary school, my parents have seriously introduced me
to their studio gave me all the encouragement in the world. though, the load was a bit
much considering academic progress and learning bead painting, batik, and adire textile
yet with serious determination, constancy of purpose, sense of continuity and diligence, i
excelled brilliantly.
my pride today is that i am one of the few artists who have succeeded as both
beads
painter and batiks maker. i also have remarkable talents in the field of mosaics, adire
textile and oil painting that i got under the tutelage of my parents.
in the early nineties just in between the period of my secondary and tertiary
education, i started selling my art works and featuring in exhibition both locally and
internationally.
my vision is to give new look to bead painting techniques in a different dimension
using both abstract and real-life paintings to contribute my own quota to making our
society a conducive place to live through my numerous “food for thoughts for the digest
of mankind. since then i have been working vigorously and dynamically to evolve from
this level to higher level.
long years of assessing my father in various artistic works, goes a long way in
explaining lots and more of my skills, it was then that i acquired an interest in bead
painting. my own style of work is unique interms of figure and colour combination. first,
i draw and trace it out with threaded beads to the panel thereby creating different shapes
as desire and finally stuck with adhesive.
at this juncture, i am grateful to almighty god for his mercy on me. more
importantly, i am in deed grateful to my parents whom i trained as an artist under their
umbrella and i say more grease to their elbow.
