Economists Turn the Page
The housing market has been keeping economists up at night for a long time now,
but insomniac dismal scientists are wearing out the floorboards over a new worry
these days: weak business spending. According to a survey by WSJ.com, more
than half of respondents ranked business outlays as their biggest or second-
biggest concern about the outlook. Housing was cited by 11 economists, while
eight are piled in the same boat as the Federal Reserve -- that is, worried about
inflation. With that backdrop, the economists wrenched down their estimates for
growth in each quarter of this year. On average, they now expect 2% growth for the
first quarter and 2.2% during the second quarter, down from 2.3% and 2.4%,
respectively, in a survey conducted in March. The group also cut their forecasts for
home prices, and raised inflation views.

topped ExecuNet's annual survey of corporate employers about the most critical characteristics and
skills they're seeking in prospective senior-management hires. ExecuNet's 15th annual Executive
Job Market Intelligence Report has tracked corporate responses to that question, and this year's
research again confirms that the most important candidate qualifiers have changed little in the
history of the survey. Leadership, the top response, is really in the eye of the beholder; but the
most common corporate descriptors of leadership include the words, "vision," "communication,"
"strategic" and "results."

According to a recent survey of 257 executive recruiters conducted by ExecuNet, 71% say the war
for talent is more intense today than just one year ago, and 67% believe there is currently a

The feedback from CEOs in the ExecuNet network suggests they are fielding multiple offers before
deciding to make a move. In light of this increasing competition, there's no question that making a
job change will prove very profitable for executives in the year ahead.

Are You Readying Your Summer Search Strategy?
I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that there are seemingly only two seasons anymore,
summer and winter. That being said, there is still a tie to the calendar concept of summer
in that it is still a focus of an increase in all sorts of events including vacations,
conferences, weddings, family reunions, and the like. Therefore the time to begin
preparing your strategic initiatives to take advantage of these events should begin now.
Now, you may be wondering how to take advantage of vacations. Well, here are two things
to factor in: 1) getting as many of your key contacts meetings scheduled before the late
June through early August prime vacation period; and 2) offering your assistance to some
of your target organizations to pitch in as possible during vacation times as a way of getting
a practical demonstration of your abilities. In any event, now’s definitely the time to get
your planning underway…
