Enjoy exciting moments with serenity. The safety features in the BMWX fulfil what is promised by its self-assured
appearance. Occupants are protected by a total of six airbags inside a passenger cell with defined deformation zones.
Furthermore, the innovative and optional Performance Control system in alliance with the intelligent xDrive all-wheel
drive systemresponds within fractions of a second to cornering behaviour as required. If appropriate, the systems will
instantly control the torque of individual wheels through targeted acceleration or braking, allowing for enhanced cornering
dynamics as well as optimal traction and tracking stability. To keep the essentials in view, the optional Bi-Xenon Headlights
can be ordered with optional Adaptive Headlights, including turning lights and dynamic headlight range control.

Reach your destinations and maintain your curiosity. The entire cockpit, with its modern design concept, is oriented towards
the driver and, thanks to its clear lines, always guides the eyes to the road ahead. The raised seating position provides a particularly
good overview at all times. In addition, the BMWX features the latest-generation iDrive in conjunction with one of the optional
navigation systems. Whats more, the optional Navigation System Professional offers the possibility of storing personal data such
as MP files directly on the integrated hard disk and playing themfromthere. Via the central iDrive Controller and the one-touch
keys, functions including CD, radio, navigation and telephone can be intuitively operated. And thanks to a standard-fitted AUX-IN
connection and USB audio interface, MP players can be easily operated.
Great ideas often reveal themselves in the tiniest detail. Inside the BMWX ,
excellent workmanship and high-quality materials in colours that perfectly
complement one another create a relaxingambiance. At the same time, the many
storage compartments in the cabin help meet your practical needs. As an option,

Vision becomes reality: BMWVision EfcientDynamics. ln 201 4 BMW plans to present a 2+2 sports car made in Germany that will feature ground-
breaking plug-in-hybrid technology combining sports-car performance with compact-class consumption. Highlighting BMWs position as the worlds
leading manufacturer of exceptionally sporty yet incomparably efcient vehicles. The BMW Vision EfcientDynamics test model has a latest-generation
fully hybrid system with output of 241 kW (32B hp). A three-cylinder turbo diesel (1 20 kW, 290 Nm torque) as well as a hybrid synchronous engine on
the front axle (22G Nm), and fully hybrid drive system on the rear axle (21 0 Nm), give the vehicle a range of up to 700 kilometres. This sports cars
dynamism to fuel consumption is quite simply without equal.

BMW EfcientDynamics represents the most comprehensive package of innovative technologies for reducing fuel consumption and emissions while
simultaneously increasing driving dynamics that is currently in standard production. With it, BMW has been able to reduce the CO
2
emissions of its
European eet by approximately 30 percent since 1 99G. 31 models produce less than 1 40 g of CO
2
per kilometre, and BMWhas already rolled out more than
two million vehicles equipped with EfcientDynamics. BMWintends to achieve a further 2G reduction by 2020.
Different paths to the same destination: unmistakable BMWdriving pleasure.
Under the auspices of the BMW EfcientDynamics project, BMW is continuously developing innovative systems that will bring us nearer to the goal of
emission-free mobility in the long term. Driving pleasure has not, of course, been forgotten. lts being pursued in four different ways at once. The optimisation
of models with conventional diesel and petrol engines continues apace. Meanwhile the BMW Hydrogen 7 has impressively demonstrated just how much
potential there is in the combination of a hydrogen drive and combustion engine. ln early 201 0 BMWlaunched its rst production models with hybrid drive:
the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 and the BMW ActiveHybrid X5. Both models offer exemplary efciency and dynamism to an unequalled degree. Based on the
BMWConcept ActiveE with its innovative 1 00electric drive system, a whole newformof dynamismis set to be launched in spring 201 1 a model that will
pave the way for the emission-free mobility of the future. And nally, a completely newvehicle concept targeted at meeting the need for sustainable mobility
in fast-growing urban conurbations could soon become reality in the shape of the Megacity Vehicle (MCV), specially developed as part of project i.
Auto Start/Stop function
The four-cylinder diesel engines with -speed manual transmission automatically
shut down when the vehicle is stationary, for example at a red light or in a trafc
jam, when the driver activates the clutch and switches to neutral. The engine
restarts as soon as the clutch is activated again. This innovation signicantly
reduces fuel consumption especially in city trafc.
Optimum Shift Indicator
Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective and easiest ways to save
fuel. This is where the Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with -speed
manual transmission comes in. It shows the driver which gear to use in order
to save fuel.
Common Rail Injection
The third-generation electronically controlled Common Rail Injection system
generates pressure of up to , bar. Diesel fuel can be injected with greater
precision and in exactly calculated amounts. This lowers consumption and
emissions while at the same time enhancing engine performance.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is
permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel
consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the generator usually only
generates electricity when the driver takes the foot off the accelerator or
the brake previously unused kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode
into electrical energy before being fed into the battery. In this way, electricity
is generated while coasting, without consuming fuel.

to the relationship between power output, fuel consumption and
emissions. Two torque-rich diesel engines, with up to kW( hp)
in the BMWX xDrived round off the range. The BMWX sDrived
is especially economical, reducing CO

thus setting newstandards for optimised consumption and emission
levels. Whichever engine you choose, with the BMWX youll always be
streets ahead when it comes to economy.

displacement and Valvetronic variable valve control. Thanks to fully variable
control of the intake valve lift, Valvetronic improves the air supply to the
engine above all in partial load operation. This makes for increased output

VANOS. This advanced valve control technology serves a dual purpose:

BMW X xDrived. The kW ( hp) BMW TwinPower Turbo
four-cylinder diesel engine features two intelligently combined exhaust
turbochargers, for blistering power delivery and endless driving pleasure.

while third-generation Common Rail Technology ensures maximum

JOY ARISES WHEN YOU GO YOUR OWN WAY.
xDrive. This intelligent all-wheel drive systemadapts perfectly even to
difficult driving situations by consistently delivering maximum traction.
As soon as xDrive recognises a tendencyto oversteer or understeer
based on driving data such as steering angle and wheel rotation speed
the systemresponds instantly. With the aid of an electronically controlled
multiple-disc clutch, it distributes drive power flexiblyto the axles within
fractions of a second to ensure optimal grip. In this way, xDrive combines
the advantages of all-wheel drive traction, directional stability and
driving safety with the hallmark agility of a BMW.
Performance Control. This optional technology for xDrive models
uses dynamic braking intervention to improve cornering behaviour,
thus boosting driving pleasure and enhancing safety at the same time.
Through targeted braking, optimal torque is distributed to the individual
wheels depending on the driving situation. This allows for particularly
dynamic cornering with the best possible grip. As a result, the BMWX
responds to steering commands more spontaneously, for increased
agility and sporty driving.
With optional Performance Control in conjunction with xDrive,
the car is physically turned into a bend, which can be taken
with even greater precision.
sDrive. The rear-wheel drive setup is a BMW principle that guarantees
driving pleasure. By clearly separating drive and steering, it permits
an optimal axle load distribution of virtually : , providing thrilling
agilityand manoeuvrabilityon practicallyanyroad. Thanks to its optimally
configured lightweight chassis, the BMWX responds directlyto every
steeringcommand, deliveringprecisionhandlingthat is unique inits class.
Safety and driving fun are not contradictory terms. And Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) proves the point. With ultra-sensitive sensors permanently
monitoring the driving situation almost in real time DSCwill, if needed,
optimise directional stability and traction by intervening in the engine
and brake management systems. This makes it easier to control the
vehicle even in adverse conditions, and actively enhances driving safety
and thus driving pleasure. Extremely powerful brakes and an outstanding
chassis also play their part. As for visibility, the BMWX offers optionally
available Adaptive Headlights, which optimally illuminate the road and
roadside as you enter a bend. In addition, turning lights and dynamic
headlight range control help to keep the essentials in view at all times.
Passive safety is also taken seriously, starting with the highly rigid
passenger cell. With its extremely torsionally stiff design and numerous
reinforcements for instance, at the front end, B-pillar and rear it offers
maximum possible safety. Six airbags in the cabin of the BMW X
provide further protection. They include driver and front passenger
airbags, seat-integrated side airbags for the driver and front passenger,
and continuous head airbags (curtain) which, in a collision, cover the
entire side area fromfront to rear and offer splinter protection.

the automobiles of today. Its focus is on connecting the
driver to their vehicle and to their world in an intelligent
manner. BMW ConnectedDrive is comprised of different
technologies, the sum of which provides you with a
unique range of mobility and will increase comfort, provide
infotainment and enhance safety.
Comfort Access.
This systemallows you to open, close
and start your car without having to
operate the remote control. Touching
the handle of the drivers or front
passenger's door or the tailgate handle
establishes a radio link between the
vehicle and the remote control to check
for the correct identity. If veried, the
central locking releases the locks and
the door or tailgate opens. If the remote
control is recognised by one of the
antennas inside the cabin, the engine
can also be started without a key, simply
by pressing the START/STOP button.
High-Beam Assist.
No unintentional dazzle the optional
High-BeamAssist recognises light
sources in the cars environment and
switches the high beamon and off,
according to the trafc situation. When
the systemis active, an image sensor at
the back of the interior mirror monitors
the trafc and lighting conditions. Based
on these sensor images, the assistant
decides whether or not the high beam
should be switched on. When it detects
vehicles ahead, or nds that ambient
light is sufcient, the high beam is
switched off again.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), incl.
CBC and Brake Assistant (with additional
functions on xDrivei). DSC recognises the
risk of swerving from the start and stabilises
the car in milliseconds. Traction Mode (DTC)
is a sub-function which allows increased wheel
slip to optimise propulsive power in certain
situations and enable a sportier style of driving.
Adaptive Headlights with variable light
distribution incl. turning lights optimally
illuminate bends thanks to the swivelling
headlights as soon as the driver turns the
wheel. The turning light is automatically
activated either at a standstill when the indicator
is used or, on the move, when heavy steering
lock is applied.
Bumpers withstand impacts up to km/h
without damage. Special crumple elements at
the front and rear absorb forces up to km/h.
Airbags: In a BMW, all safety features
complement each other perfectly. There are
six airbags to provide specific protection:
driver and front passenger airbags, the front-
to-rear head airbags as well as side airbags
integrated in the front seat backrests.
Run-flat indicator minimises the risks
associated with tyre defects. The system
detects air pressure changes in the tyres and
then warns the driver by activating a light.
Door strengthening elements provide
maximum occupant protection in the event of
a side impact. Cross members (strengthening
profiles) fitted diagonally in the doors ensure
impressive stiffness.
Performance Control: This electronic
control system ensures even greater dynamics
through corners. Variable power distribution is
used to actively turn the car into the corner,
allowing even greater driving precision
(available for xDrive models).
Cornering Brake Control (CBC) increases
vehicle stability when braking gently in a fast
bend. During braking manoeuvres, the load on
the rear wheels is reduced, which can lead to
oversteering ( ). In braking manoeuvres that are
outside the ABS control range, CBC addresses
this tendency by building up unilateral brake
pressure () in order to create a stabilising
counterforce ().
Hill Descent Control (HDC) is a system
for downhill driving which ensures that the
BMW tackles even steep downhill sections
automatically and safely at slightly over walking
speed and without the driver having to brake
(only available on xDrive models).
