TRANSMISSION

Symptom: P0743-TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID/TRANS RELAY CIRCUITS

When Monitored and Set Condition: P0743-TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID/TRANS RELAY CIRCUITS When Monitored: Continuously with the key on.

Set Condition: This code will set if the voltage detected on the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Control circuit at the PCM is different than the expected voltage.

POSSIBLE CAUSES DETERMINE IF P-1765 CONDITION IS PRESENT FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE INTERMITTENT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID TCC SOLENOID TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN PCM TCC SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE TCC SOLENOID CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND TCC SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN TCC SOLENOID PCM
TEST 1 ACTION Is the Transmission a 4-Speed Automatic? Yes No 2 Go To Go To 2 12 All APPLICABILITY All

Note: If all three solenoid codes P-0743, P-0748, P-0753 are present at the same time, Perform symptom P-1765 Transmission 12 Volt Supply Relay control circuit, before proceeding. Turn the ignition on. With the DRB, read DTCs. Is the Specific Good Trip Counter for P-0743 displayed and equal to 0? Yes No Go To Go To 3 18

TEST 3 ACTION Turn the ignition on. With the DRB, read DTCs. Is the Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay Control Circuit code P-1765 present? Yes Repair the P-1765 - Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay Control Circuit code before proceeding. Perform Transmission DTC Verification Test Go To 4 All APPLICABILITY All

Turn the ignition off. Remove the Transmission Control Relay from the PDC. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the transmission control relay output circuit in the Transmission Control Relay connector. Is the voltage above 0.5 volt? Yes Repair the transmission control relay output circuit for a short to voltage. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 5

No 5

Turn the ignition off. Remove the Transmission Control Relay from the PDC. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Measure the resistance between ground and the transmission control relay output circuit in the Transmission Control Relay connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes Repair the transmission control relay output circuit for a short to ground. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 6

Turn the ignition off. Remove the Transmission Control Relay from the PDC. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Measure the resistance of the transmission control relay output circuit between the Transmission Control Relay connector and the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes No Go To 7

All

Repair the transmission control relay output circuit for an open. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5.

TEST 7 ACTION Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the TCC solenoid control circuit in the PCM C2 harness connector. Is there any voltage present? Yes No 8 Repair the TCC solenoid control circuit for a short to voltage. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 8 All APPLICABILITY All

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Measure the resistance between ground and the TCC solenoid control circuit in the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes No Repair the TCC solenoid control circuit for a short to ground. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 9

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary. Measure the resistance of the TCC solenoid control circuit between the PCM C2 harness connector and the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes No Go To 10

Repair the TCC solenoid control circuit for an open. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. All

Turn the ignition off. Remove the Transmission Control Relay from the PDC. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Measure the resistance between the TCC solenoid control circuit in the PCM C2 harness connector and the transmission control relay output circuit in the Transmission Control Relay connector. Is the resistance between 26.0 and 40.0 ohms? Yes No Go To 11

Replace the TCC Solenoid (part of the Transmission Solenoid Assembly) in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. All

If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. Repair Replace the Powertrain Control Module. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5.

TEST 12 ACTION Turn the ignition on. With the DRB, read DTCs. Is the Specific Good Trip Counter for P-0743 displayed and equal to 0? Yes No 13 Go To Go To 13 18 All APPLICABILITY All

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit in the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Is the voltage below 10.0 volts? Yes No Repair the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 14

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary Measure the resistance between ground and the TCC solenoid control circuit in the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes No Repair the TCC solenoid control circuit for a short to ground. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. Go To 15

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary. Measure the resistance of the TCC solenoid control circuit between the PCM C2 harness connector and the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes No Go To 16

Repair the TCC solenoid control circuit for an open. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. All

Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the TCC Solenoid control circuit in the PCM C2 harness connector. Is the voltage above 10.0 volts? Yes No Go To 17

Replace the TCC Solenoid (part of the Transmission Solenoid Assembly) in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5.

TEST 17 ACTION If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. Repair Replace the Powertrain Control Module. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test - Ver 5. 18 At this time, the conditions required to set the DTC are not present. Note: Use the Freeze Frame Data to help duplicate the conditions that set the DTC. Pay particular attention to the DTC set conditions, such as, VSS, MAP, ECT, and Load. Note: Visually inspect the related wiring harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Note: Visually inspect the related wiring harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals. Note: Refer to any technical service bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? Yes No Repair as necessary. Perform Transmission DTC Verification Test Test Complete. All APPLICABILITY All
