whatever struggle is going on in their own life, says Jonas, who was diagnosed at age 13 in 2005. Jonas strongly believes in the rights of people with all types of disabilities and advocates for increased health related research and government funding. Our distinguished honorees are recognized for their commitment to civil justice for people with disabilities, says the DRLCs Executive Director Paula Pearlman, Esq. Every day, children and adults face unnecessary challenges due to having diabetes. The Americans with Disabilities Act and recent amendments make it clear that these challenges that may involve health and wellbeing, housing, public access, education and employment are simply unacceptable in todays society. It is a privilege for the Disability Rights Legal Center to recognize these influential advocates. The DRLC continues to advocate for people with disabilities to participate fully in education, housing, healthcare, recreation and other activities that many in the non-disabled community take for granted. In addition to the celebratory dinner, awards presentation and video tributes, actor Michael Bonnabel will perform an excerpt from The Good Boy, an autobiographical solo performance piece about being raised by deaf parentsthough he could hear. With the support of the Franklin D. Roosevelt family, the DRLC inaugurates its annual fundraisers new name and acknowledges the personal role that the 32nd President played in the history of disability rights in America. Past DRLC award recipients include the corporations Starbucks, Verizon Wireless and Ticketmaster, the United States Senator Tom Harkin, and the actors Fran Drescher and John Lithgow.
