This manual describes only the data configuration process. For data commissioning and verification, see the Airbridge BTS3606E&3606AE CDMA Base Station System Commissioning Guide.
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
1-1
Unless otherwise specified, all configuration operations in this manual are performed through the service maintenance system.
1-2
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
Far-End Configuration Preconditions The network between the service maintenance system and the BAM runs normally. The BAM runs normally. The operation and maintenance link (OML) between the target BTS and the BAM is set up. The WS has the operation authority. Instructions Log in to the BAM from the service maintenance system through the TCP/IP network. Execute MML configuration commands on the service maintenance system.
Near-End Configuration The network between the service maintenance system and the BCKM of the source BTS runs normally. The BAM runs normally. The OML between the source BTS and the BAM is set up. The OML between the target BTS and the BAM is set up.
Start the reverse maintenance function on the service maintenance system. Log in to the BCKM IP address from the service maintenance system. Execute MML configuration commands on the service maintenance system.
Unlike the Telnet, you can use the auxiliary functions provided by the service maintenance system to facilitate the centralized configuration of the whole base station subsystem (BSS). Therefore, the service maintenance system is recommended for data configuration.
For detailed instructions on how to use the service maintenance system, see the online help of the service maintenance system. In the case of near-end configuration, the WS is connected to the BCKM of the source BTS through crossover cables.
1.2.2 Telnet
A WS may operate in different networks. Similarly, two methods to use the Telnet are available, as described in Table 1-2. Table 1-2 Telnet operation methods Far-End Configuration Environment The WS and the BAM are in the same TCP/IP network. Near-End Configuration The WS and the BCKM Ethernet port of the BTS are in the same TCP/IP network.
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
1-3
Far-End Configuration Instructions Start the Telnet agent function on the service maintenance system. Log in to the service maintenance system in Telnet mode. Execute MML configuration commands through the Telnet. Preconditions The BAM runs normally. The OML between the target BTS and the BAM is set up. The WS has the authority to access the BAM.
Near-End Configuration Log in to the BCKM from the Telnet through the TCP/IP network. Execute MML configuration commands on the Telnet.
The network between the WS and the BCKM is normal. The BAM is operational. An OML between the source BTS and the BAM is set up. An OML between the target BTS and the BAM is set up.
Feature
You can perform centralized maintenance on each BTS under the BSC. But you cannot make use of the auxiliary functions of the service maintenance system.
Using the Telnet in this way does not require the support of the base station controller (BSC) and BAM. You can, however, maintain BTSs that connect only with the WS. You cannot make use of the auxiliary functions of the service maintenance system.
The operation instruction for Telnet maintenance is as follows: Step 1 Start the proxy (only for the remote LMT). On the service maintenance system, execute the following command: STR BTSTELPROXY: BTSID, PORT; Step 2 On the O&M terminal, select Start > Run to open the Run dialog box. In the dialog box, run telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" stands for the destination for Telnet login. Depending on the O&M terminal that you are using, the value can be the following addresses: For the local LMT, the destination is the IP address of the BCKM. For the remote BAM, the destination is the O&M IP address of BTS. For the remote LMT, the destination is the IP address and the port of the BAM. Step 3 In the Telnet window, enter the user name and password.
>User name: system >Password: system HW CBTS>opnday HW CBTS>
After this step, you can execute commands through the Telnet. The command opnday enables character association for command input.
1-4
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
Step 4 Stop the proxy (only for the remote LMT). Step 5 Execute the command STP BTSTELPROXY: BTSID, CONFIRM=Y; on the service maintenance system. ----End
Instructions
Using a file compiler, create a configuration file that contains all the BTS configuration information. Save the configuration file in \cdma2000\BTSLoad\cfg in the BAM and name it correctly. Execute the command DLD CBTSSW to load the configuration file to the target BTS and then activate the configuration file.
Remark
For details on how to load the configuration file, see the Airbridge BTS3606E&3606AE CDMA Base Station System Commissioning Guide.
The file name format of a configuration file is BTSXXX.txt. The XXX stands for the BTS ID.

Step 2 With the BOOTP request, the CBPE obtains the IP address of the BCIM and the route information according to the information about the BOOTP transmission channel. Step 3 The CBPE adds the IP address of the BCIM and other information to the BOOTP response frame and sends it to the BCIM. Step 4 The BCKM sends the BOOTP request to the BSC to obtain the O&M IP address of the BTS. Step 5 When the BTS obtains the O&M IP address, it sends the TCP link setup request to the BAM. Step 6 The BAM accepts this request, and the BTS sets up the OML to the BAM. ----End
You need to define the IP address of the BCIM and the O&M IP address of the BTS only during the first startup of a new BTS. For IP transmission over E1/T1 bearer, the IP interface board of the BSC is the CBPE. For IP transmission over FE bearer, the IP interface board of the BSC is the CBPF.
The process is as follows: Step 1 Execute the command ADD CBTSFEPORT to set the IP address of the FE port on the BCIM. Step 2 Execute the command SET CBTSBCIMIP to set the IP address of the BCIM. Step 3 Execute the command ADD CBTSIPROUTE to set the route for the BCIM. Step 4 Execute the command SET CBTSOAMIP to specify an O&M IP address for the BTS. Step 5 When the BTS obtains its O&M IP address, it sends an IP link setup request to the BAM. Step 6 After receiving this request, the BAM sets up the OML between the BTS and the BSC. ----End
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
2-3
Because the BSC has active and standby CMUXs, one OML corresponds to two chunks of BOOTP information. In the two chunks of BOOTP information, the BTS gateway IP address of the CMUX is the same as the BTS BOOTP ID. When a backup OML is required, you need to set four chunks of BOOTP information. Normally, an OML does not need any backup. You need to set only two chunks of BOOTP information.

Table 3-1 lists these boards. Table 3-1 Baseband boards Board BCKM Description The BCKM controls and manages the entire BTS3606E/BTS3606AE. It provides the following functions: BCKM 0 is an active board, and BCKM 1 is a standby one. If both the BCKMs are powered on at the same time, the BCKM in slot 0 serves as the active board and the one in slot 1 serves as the standby one. If the two BCKMs are not powered on at the same time, the one that is powered on first serves as the active board and the other serves as the standby one. Generally, the BTS3606E or BTS3606AE has only one BCKM, which is inserted into slot 0. BCIM The BCIM implements the connection between the BTS and the BSC. It supports: E1/T1 and FE transmission modes ATM and IP bearers IMA, UNI, Fractional ATM, Fractional IMA, PPP, and MLPPP link groups If only one BCIM is configured, this BCIM is inserted in Slot 0. CEM The Channel Element Module (CEM) is the collective name of the CCPM and CECM. A CEM slot can house either a CCPM or a CECM. The CCPM is the service processing board. It processes the service data on the forward and reverse channels. The CECM is a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO service processing board. It processes the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO service data on the forward and reverse channels. The following pairs of CCPMs can either work together in daisy chain mode to provide a resource pool or work individually to provide a resource pool: CCPM 0 and CCPM 1 CCPM 2 and CCPM 3 CCPM 4 and CCPM 5 Each of CCPM 6CCPM 9 works individually to provide a resource pool, and they can be connected only with the ODU. A QCK1 CCPM can be inserted in Slot 0Slot 5. The CECM provides a resource pool individually. CECM 6CECM 9 can be connected with ODUs. 3.1.5 CE Pool
The channel element (CE) pool consists of a CCPM/CECM or a group of CCPMs that are in serial connection.
When the CRDM is not configured, the BTS3606E/3606AE supports that each CCPM forms an independent CE pool or that the following pairs of CCPMs form CE pools in daisy chain mode: CCPMs 0 and 1 CCPMs 2 and 3 CCPMs 4 and 5
Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
3-7
The CCPMs/CECMs 69 only form independent CE pools and can be used only for ODU cascading. The CE pool used by a channel depends on the position of the CCPM/CECM, as shown in Figure 3-7. Figure 3-7 Relation between channels and CEMs

When the CRDM is configured, it implements the resource sharing between CCPMs. In this case, the CCPMs can flexibly form multiple CE pools in daisy chain mode. The CE pools used by the carriers are not determined by the positions of the CCPMs/CECMs, but distributed by the CRDM. To add the CRDM in the subrack, run the following command: ADD CBTSGENBRD: BTSID, BRDTP=CRDM, BRDID; To configure the CE pool, run the following command: ADD CBTSCPL: BTSID, CPLID, CPLMODE= STATIC;

narrowband signals in the inband spectrum, and apply wave restriction to these signals. In this way, interference signals can be eliminated. The adaptive filtering function can eliminate the narrowband signals effectively and is suitable for areas with poor reverse-channel radio environment. In areas with good radio environment, however, you must disable the adaptive filtering function to avoid the delay caused by this function. You can execute the following command to disable the reverse interference adaptive filtering function: SET CBTSSECTORPARA: BTSID, LOCALCELLID, LOCALSECTORID, CRRID, SECTORTP, MAXCELLR, PCM, SAFM;
The QCK2 CMTR supports adaptive filtering, while the QCK1 CMTR does not support this function.

Issue 02 (2006-10-08)
The BTS chain networking is implemented through the BTS transmission trunk function, which is a kind of virtual path (VP) switching. The VP switching applies to only ATM transmission. In this mode, the BTS transmission link uses UNI and IMA mode. The upper-level link connects a BTS with its upper-level BTS or BSC and carries the logical links between the BTS and its lower-level BTS. The virtual path identifier (VPI) of the logical link varies with the BTS. The VPI of a BTS is fixed to 1, while the VPIs of its lower-level BTSs are switched to the lower-level link (the link connecting the BTS with its lower-level BTS) through the trunk transmission link. Figure 5-4 shows how the VP switching is implemented. Figure 5-4 VP switching
BTS VPI=1 BSC VPI=123 VPI=2,3 Internal processing VP switching VPI=1,3 BTS VPI=1 VPI=3 Internal processing VP switching VPI=1 BTS
In chain networking mode, you need to configure the Abis interface only for the lowest-level BTSs. For the other BTSs, you need to configure the information of the Abis interface and the lower-level BTSs. For the configuration method of a lower-level BTS, see 5.2.11 "Configuring the Information about Lower-Level BTS Connected in UNI or IMA Mode."
Tree Networking
Figure 5-5 shows tree networking mode. The tree network is equivalent to a combination of several chain networks. Its configuration method is similar to that of chain networking. Figure 5-5 BTS tree networking

FRAC 3
BTS 3
For fractional IP networking, an upper-level E1/T1 is not used as a complete transmission link. It is divided into timeslots which are allocated to different BTSs. The upper-level BTS only needs to set up a time slot cross-connection. In fractional networking mode, you need to configure the Abis interface only for the lowest-level BTSs. For other BTSs, you need to configure the information of the Abis interface and cascaded lower-level BTSs. For the configuration method of a cascaded lower-level BTS, see 5.2.12 "Configuring the Information about Lower-Level BTS Connected in Fractional Mode" and 5.2.13 "Configuring the Information about Lower-Level BTS Connected in PPP/MLPPP Mode." When fractional ATM networking mode is used, only the fractional links occupying timeslot 1 support the auto link listening function.
ODU Cascading
The BTS3606E or BTS3606AE can be connected with an ODU through the following ways: When the CRDM is not configured, the QCK1CCPM/QCK1CECM uses optical fibers to connect with the ODU. When the CRDM is not configured, the QCK2CCPM/QCK2CECM uses optical fibers or SFP cables to connect with the ODU. When the CRDM is configured, it uses optical fibers or SFP cables to connect with the ODU. Figure 5-7 shows the topology of ODU cascading. Figure 5-7 ODU cascading

IP networking applies to complicated network structure and high bandwidth requirement. Therefore, it is an ideal data service bearer. IP networking is not recommended for services requiring short delay or low delay jitter. Among such services, a typical one is the voice service, including VoIP.
