1. Open your file in Microsoft Project. File > Open

trial version of MS Project.

2. At the top left corner of your screen, select Open In Pertmaster

Your screen should look similar to a Microsoft Project plan, but now you are on
your way to seeing when your project will be truly done and how you reduce
your project lifecycle!

8. Select Risk from the toolbar, select Duration Quick Risk (Shift+F10)
from the drop down menu or click on

You will see the following screen

The value you entered from each task from MS Project is your remaining
duration.

The percent you enter for minimum duration will be x% of the remaining
duration (i.e. if your remaining duration is 10 days and you enter Minimum
duration is 70% of remaining duration, your minimum duration will become
7 days).

The likely duration can also be changed to the percentage of the remaining
duration (i.e. if your remaining duration is 10 days and you enter Likely
duration is 100% of remaining duration, your minimum duration will remain
10 days).

The percent you enter for maximum duration will be x% of you’re the
remaining duration (i.e. if your remaining duration is 10 days and you enter
Maximum duration is 160% of remaining duration, your maximum duration
will become 16 days).

Note: Quick risk is intended to quickly assess risk and uncertainty within a project. It will begin the
dialogue and add valuable insight into the true when, why, what of your project.

This will populate the Minimum Duration, Most Likely, Maximum Duration on the
right side of the Pertmaster for Microsoft Project GANNT chart. If you double click
on any of the cells in the Duration Risk column (Triangle (X,X,X)), you can see the
tasks details by selecting the Risks tab and the Duration tab you can see a graphical
interpretation of your distribution.
This will now
create a triangular
distribution for this
task and all other
tasks in the plan.
This will allow the
random number
generator to plug
this range of values
and recalculate
them while running
the simulation. To
view the task
details, double click
on any cell in the
Duration Risk
column

9. Select Risk from the toolbar, select Run Risk Analysis… (F10) from the drop
down menu or click on

Select Go

Select OK

You will notice the values in the Preferred Finish Date and Rem Durn columns
change as well as the Gantt chart move.
The range of values you have put in the Minimum Duration, Most Likely Duration,
and Maximum Duration are now being calculated and re-calculated 1000 times to
give you the following information in a histogram.

10. Now that you have analyzed the risks in your project, you need to be able to
communicate the results to begin managing the project more efficiently.
Select Reports from the toolbar, and Summary Risk Report from the drop
down menu. You will see the following screen.
