RFID Based

Asset Management

Service New Initiative

Office Automation Division
HCL Infosystems Ltd
Why RFID in Asset
Management
• No manual stock taking required
– Handheld reader can automatically count
• Tracking exit/entry of materials
– EAS gate can track the number of exit / entry
of items
• Security of materials / asset
– EAS gate can detect and raise alarm for any
unauthorized item movement outside the
location
• Real time location of the materials/asset
– Real-time information can be achieved in
tracking the asset/materials anywhere in the
office/warehouse

Basic Methodology of RFID

In RFID system there are three main parts:-

Transponders (Tags): they attached different objects, depending on
their types (Active / Passive) they send radio signals.
Transceivers:
Transceivers They are devices like handheld reader, reader and
antenna & EAS Gate capture the signals received from the tags and
act accordingly.
Database:
Database for any successful implementation of the RFID, database
plays a very important role, all the information captured or released is
captured in the database at the backend.

RFID Tags
• Different types of RFID Tags
• Tags are according to the usage
• Active & Passive Tags
– Active tags with inbuilt battery to send
signals
– Passive tags gets activated once comes
in contact with RFID antenna/reader
• Soft tags and hard tags according to
usage
– Soft tags are pasted on different cartons,
or soft items.
– Hard tags are used on furniture, etc or
hard items
RFID Tags are pasted or attached according
to the type of asset
RFID Tags & Reader
Antenna

Both RFID Tags (Active or Passive) will omit signals which are received by
RFID Handheld reader or Antenna at different locations, the same
information is diverted to the central database centre or stored within the
RFID devices (handheld) which is later transferred to central database.
RFID Integration with ERP

Information from different location by the RFID Antenna, Handheld Reader,

EAS Gate is transferred to the central database for further report
generations.

Company have options to generate different reports and track the exact
location of any asset in the office, under the RFID Reader / Antenna
purview.
RFID and Security System
• Tags pasted on all items
will be under the
preview of the security
gate.
• Any item/asset with
RFID tags is taken out of
the gate/EAS Gate
without authorization
will raise alarm
– Video Camera can be
attached to record the
unauthorized exits.
• EAS Gate can record all
the movements of the
hardware and send the

RFID Summary
• RFID is currently “the technology” in the
warehouse/asset management solution
around the world
• In today’s fast moving technology handling
sensitive orders/package with old
technology will only pull back the business
• RFID not only track the asset anywhere in
the office, but also provide security of the
materials/asset
