DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION DCE 5231: MANAGING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM FIRST SEMESTER

2009/10 FINAL EXAMINATION (2 hours maximum) Direction: Please read this instruction and the questions carefully. Answer only four (4) questions of your choice. You may refer to you notes or other reading materials; however you have to use your own words in writing the answers. Please write your answer clearly in the answer book. The criteria I will use in grading your responses are relevancy to the question, accuracy, scope and comprehensiveness, use of references where appropriate, logic and organization of thought, and writing style. 1. Compare and contrast between two teaching methods of your choice, for example Computer based learning and small group discussion, lecture and case study, small group and mass method, etc. You must be able to define the methods first before comparing the two. Give relevant examples to clarify your discussion. Bincangkan persamaan dan perbezaan di antara dua kaedah mengajar pilihan anda, sebagai contoh Pembelajaran Melalui Komputer dan Perbincangan Kumpulan Kecil, Syarahan dan Kajian Kes, Perbincangan Kumpulan Kecil dan Kaedah Kumpulan Massa. dll. Your organization is undergoing a major reengineering exercise. You are directed by the CEO to plan a training program for 20 senior managers to enable them facilitate

the necessary changes. Develop the training program and include the following items; training needs, training objectives, training methods, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and other items that are necessary in order for you to develop an effective training program. Organisasi anda di dalam usaha untuk membaikpulih perjalanannya. Anda telah diarahkan oleh CEO untuk merancang satu latihan untuk 20 orang pengurus senior supaya mereka boleh mengerakkan perubahan tersebut. Bentuk satu program latihan dengan menyatakan perkara-perkara berikut; keperluan latihan, objektif latihan, kaedah latihan, perlaksanaan, pemantauan, penilaian dan perkaraperkara lain yang diperlukan untuk membentuk satu peogram latihan yang berkesan.

Research has shown that there is a disjuncture between theory and practice of program planning. What practitioners do in planning training program is not similar to what is described in the literature. What are the differences? And why these phenomena exist? Discuss the answers for those two questions using empirical data and your experiences. Penyelidikan telah menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perbezaan di antara teori dan amalan perancangan program latihan. Apa yang dilakukan oleh pengamal latihan tidak sama dengan syor yang diterangkan di dalam literatur. Apakah perbezaan tersebut? Dan mengapa phenomena ini berlaku? Bincangkan jawapan kepada kedua-dua soalan tersebut dengan menggunakan data empirikal dan pengalaman anda.

Training program is considered as a formal approach of educating employees. Besides training there are others approaches to change employees attitudes, knowledge,

and skills. Describe at least three (3) of these non-formal approaches and discuss their advantages and explain what necessary steps to implement the approaches. Program latihan adalah satu pendekatan formal untuk mendidik kakitangan. Selain daripada latihan terdapat beberapa pendekatan lain untuk mengubah sikap, pengetahuan, dan kemahiran kakitangan. Terangkan tiga (3) pendekatan nonformal ini dan bincangakan kelebihan mereka dan terangkan juga langkahlangkah yang perlu diambil untuk melaksanakan pendekatan tersebut. 5. Try to think of three (3) issues related to training evaluation that seems very important in the context of Malaysians training program. Describe the issue to explicitly reveal what is the problem and how do you think they might be solved. Fikirkan tiga isu berkaitan dengan penilaian latihan yang sangat mustahak di dalam konteks latihan di Malaysia. Terangkan isu-isu tersebut supaya dengan jelas ia menjadi masalah dan bagaimana cadangan anda untuk menyelesaikannya.
