Project: GPON (Gigabit-capable passive optical networks) Project Details: A passive optical network (PON) is a network architecture that brings fiber cabling and signals to the home using a point-to-multipoint scheme that enables a single optical fiber to serve multiple premises. The architecture uses passive (no powered) optical splitters, reducing the cost of equipment compared to point-to-point architectures. The GPON standard differs from other PON standards in that it achieves higher bandwidth and higher efficiency using larger, variable-length packets. GPON offers efficient packaging of user traffic, with higher quality of service (QoS) for delaysensitive voice and video communications traffic. Microprocessors: PAS5211, P2020, BL2348 I was involved in the design and coding of following tasks: Framework Design and coding: Designed the interface between application and user. This interface is based on the standard POSIX message queue and threads. Database Management: Managing the whole information regarding the ONU (Optical Network Unit) and ONT (Optical Network Unit) in OLT (Optical Line Termination) database. This part includes the synchronization of handling different ONU alarms and ONT alarms at the simultaneously.
