To ensure safety and a continuous operation, the European ATM network must be able to deal with

different contingencies at all levels of operation. The objective of contingency planning is to

prepare for uninterrupted operations at all times regardless of technical or catastrophic failures, as
well as industrial action, be it a breakdown of a radio frequency at a small airport or a major
international crisis. This will be achieved by developing contingency plans at all levels and co-
ordinating the plans.

SITTI SPA - AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

SITTI S.p.A. have been producing high quality ATC
communication systems since 1946. Our products
include digital voice and data switching systems,
analogue voice switching systems, multifunctional
terminals, clock systems, aeronautical
telecommunication and information systems and
consoles.

M600 DIGITAL VOICE COMMUNICATION

SWITCHING SYSTEM

The latest model of SITTI's VCSS is a fully digital

system with CCITT A-law encoding voice Pulse Code
modulation. The M600 allows connection to both
analogue and digital lines and its design is based on a
duplicated and redundant architecture with distributed
microcomputer processing. The Intercom function is a
built-in facility.

All the positions are equipped with colour LCD

touchscreen devices, which in conjunction with the
Reconfiguration and Monitor unit provide the system
with a high degree of flexibility. The positions can be
connected by fibre optic for secure applications.

Each telephone interface is allowed to connect to any

type of telephone line. Each radio interface permits
the management of any radio equipment. Direct
frequency tuning on an individual radio by any
operator is one of the facilities provided by the
system.

Any worldwide MFC protocol, including MFC-R2 Malpensa airport: new

modified for Eurocontrol, is supported by the M600. control tower.
SITTI has developed the ATS-Qsig front end and is
participating in the ATS-Qsig field trials sponsored by
Eurocontrol and Italian Civil Aviation.

DIGITAL ELECTRONIC CLOCK DEC 9G GPS digital clock

system DEC9G.
It is an integrated system for the synchronised
distribution of time and date to dedicated displays
and/or host systems. The DEC 9G Clock receives data
from GPS satellites and distributes time/date in digital
form at the operator's displays. Appropriate data links
are available for synchronisation distribution to other
external units (i.e. radar antennas). Redundant
configuration with duplicated units can be provided.

CONSOLES: PK AND CR SERIES ARO console.

These consoles are suitable for both Visual Control

Room and ATCC environments. Both series are based
on a design which allows each console to be installed
with different modules which are interchangeable (the
position of keyboards, monitors, loudspeakers, and so
on, can be changed without any mechanical
alteration). An additional feature is the capability to
adjust automatically the slope and the height of the
shelves by push-button commands. This allows it to Colour-touch screen
accommodate the visual display units according to the
keyboard.
