History of Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig City

Barangay Sta. Ana is among the 28 barangays in Taguig City located in the 1st District. Believed to be the first settlement by the side of Tagig river which divide Tagig, and in fact originally called Taguig is Barrio Santa Ana which was so named in honor of the towns patron saint. As the center for religiosity, as to where the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne is located, there also grows the historic centennial tree (Acacia tree). The Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne Located at Liwayway St., Sta. Ana, Taguig was Built during the term of Fr. Diego Alvarez of the Augustinian Friars in 1587, this is definitely one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. This was destroyed by an earthquake in 1645 and reconstructed in 1848 when Fr. Andres Diaz became its Parish Priest. It was destroyed again by another earthquake and rebuilt in 1896 by Fr. Guillermo Diaz. A new retablo was installed in the year 2003 by the incumbent parish priest, Rev. Fr. Roy M. Rosales. The Dambanang Kawayan was transferred to the Shrine of Saint Anne in Sta. Ana, Taguig City. Dambanang Kawayan, officially known as Saint John the Baptist Parish, is a Roman Catholic parish-church located in Barangay LigidTipas in Taguig City, Philippines. This church of Tipas formerly belonged to the Immaculate Conception Parish of Pasig and later transferred to the Shrine of Saint Anne in Sta. Ana, Taguig City. On November 17, 1969, Cardinal Rufino Jiao Santos formally erected the parish under the patronage of St. John the Baptist. The first parish priest appointed was Rev. Fr. Ruben "Ben" J. Villote. The word "Tipas" comes from the word "Tinagpas" or "Tiga-gapas" because the original Tipaseos were farmers. From 1969 to 2003, the Parish of St. John the Baptist was a part of the Archdiocese of Manila. Presently, it belongs to the

Vicariate of St. Anne under the Diocese of Pasig. Rev. Fr. Juvi Q. Coronel is the current parish priest. Colegio de Santa Ana is one of the places that Brgy. Sta. Ana is proud of. Colegio de Santa Ana is a Private, Catholic (Parochial) institution located in Liwayway Street, Sta. Ana, Taguig City. Founded in 1980 by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Augurio I. Juta, CDSA offers quality Christian education and produces graduates that are God-fearing and responsible Filipino citizens. It all started with a simple vision to establish an institution that would help in the Catholic formation and educational enhancement of parishioners and common folks alike for the native Taguigenos (Canon 804 1 of the Code of Canon Law [2]). It was in the early 1980s that this idea sprang from the modest mind of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Augurio Juta, a resident parish priest of St. Anne with the assistance of Rev. Mother Maria Josefina C. Yamson, RVM, then Superior Gen. of the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary. With its humble vision, the institution then called Sta. Ana Parochial School was established. In June of 1980, preparatory courses for nursery and kindergarten were opened simultaneously, with Sis. Ma. Josefina C. Campos, RVM, as the pioneer teacher, with the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) permit to operate from Nursery to Grade One. To strengthen the foundation further and to meet the growing demand, the director sought the assistance and support from a mandated organization, the Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA), in January 1982. This membership formalized the contract agreed upon by the Roman Catholic Archbishops of Manila, as represented by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal L. Sin and the Sta. Ana Parochial School Administration as represented by Rev. Mother Ma. Josefina C. Yamson, RVM. To follow up on this formalization, Sta. Ana Parochial School filed its Articles of Incorporation with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on July 8, 1982, created its policy-making body and completed its by-laws by January 31, 1985.
