Five persons were killed including a five month old baby when a fire razes a commercial building along Sixto Roxas St. in Pasig City. The fire started at one in the afternoon when a faulty wiring sparked from the ceiling of the commercial building. A whole block of residential houses was burned and about 300 families were rendered homeless. The damage caused by the fire to property was estimated at P10 million. Investigators said that the fire spread quickly so the victims were unable to escape from their house. Fatalities were charred beyond recognition and ten others were injured sustaining third to second degree burns. Injured were brought to Pasig General Hospital and Rizal Medical Center. SPO1 Mario Lazuga identified those who were killed as Simplicio Santos, 48; Sonia Ambrocio, 43; Carlo Tunasan, 25; Barbara Cruz, 50; and Baby Angie, five months old. Injured were not yet identified at press time.

2. Fire burned 10 houses in Barangay Talon, Quezon City resulting in losses estimated to reach one million pesos. SPO1 Dionisio Guideng, police investigator, said that the fire started at 8:00 pm during a brown out when Angela Gammad lighted a candle and placed it near the window where a plastic curtain hung. Due to strong winds, the curtain touched the lighted candle. Three people sustained minor injuries and identified as Danilo Catam, 25; Delia Hiram, 12; and Antonio Anton, 15. 3. There was a bomb explosion occurred in a bus terminal in Kabasalan, Zamboanga del Sur which hurt three persons. The bus was parked inside and the driver was changing a tire when the bomb exploded. Maj. Apolinario Aplaca, chief of the Armys 55th Infantry Batallion, said a home made bomb in a tin can with a timing device was placed inside the baggage compartment. He further said that the suspects could be extortionists from a group identified with the Abu sayyaf. The military also tagged the group as behind the abduction of Luis Toh, 51, a Chinese-Filipino trader in Margosatubig town. 4. A teenage boy was killed while he was walking on his way to the bakery along Mindanao Avenue yesterday at 5 a.m when a gunman approached him from behind and without a word shot him several times in the body. Johnny Agnes, 19, of 83 Mindanao Avenue, Maharlika Village, Taguig sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Philippine General Hospital. Police recovered several deformed slugs of a .45 caliber handgun from the scene. Witnesses said the attacker walked casually after shooting Agnes and boarded an unmarked vehicle. Students cheered for LIKE party in miting de avance Kathleen Marie Murillo, the running president of LIKE party, gained supports from the crowd when she discussed their several platforms confidently in Miting de Avance, held at the gym of Lorma Colleges last July 15. She introduced first her running mates and mentioned what position they are running for. The list bears the name of Allen Joshua Dominguez-Vice President; Harlyn Cortez-Secretary; Ferry Ann Madrid-Treasurer; Roselle Sanchez-Auditor; Hazel Macanas-PRO; Ivy Diza, Eden Olbinado-Business Managers; Jeric Austin, Jene Agpasa Peace Officers. Each candidate was confronted by a series of impromptu questions containing different issues raised by the COMELEC representatives such as tuition fee hikes, boring intrams and foundation day to name just a few. They have to answer the questions with much conviction and credibility so they can convince the audience to cast their votes for them. Their plans include uniting the community by leadership training, and developing Lorma talents through forming different clubs and supporting them. They are against on tuition fee hikes, and pro to gender sensitivity. In addition to that, they will try to propose alternative classes catering to students interest. L.I.K.E. also promises a cleaner LORMA under their administration. The event organizers also provided an open-dialogue for the audience so that they can ask questions or address their concerns freely to both parties. L.I.K.E. party hopes to win the coming election even though most of their candidates are not from the Department of Nursing.

LOAD Party PLATFORMS: LIKE or Dislike? Lorma Colleges commenced a Grand Rally for the aiming candidates of the SML Election last July 15, 2011 held at the Lorma Gymnasium. There are two parties the L.I.K.E Party and the LOAD Party. During the Grand Rally, two parties presented their platforms.The LOAD Party was organized by Bernadette Flor Curilan from the College of Nursing (President), Maverick Kaypee Collet from the College of Physical Therapy/Respiratory Therapy(Vice President), Louie James Ostrea from the College of Nursing (Secretary), Remal Oligario from the College of Computer Studies and Engineering (Treasurer), Charmaine Rayzel Estrada from the College of Management and Accountancy (Auditor), Vilma Domyong from the College of Radiological Technology (Press Releasing Officer), Rozette Joy Patacsil from the College of Medical Laboratory Science and Kier Steven de Guzman from the College of Nursing (Business Managers), Daniella Medina from the College of Pharmacy and Razel Nafertti Perez form the College of Medical Laboratory Science (Peace Officer). The platforms represented by the LOAD Party were: First, the Official Facebook Account of SML wherein they are going to post the activities, programs and updates. Students can also give their comments or suggestions and serve as freedom wall to everybody. In connection with these is the transparency of report of expenditures for every activity wherein it will be posted on the bulletin boards or on the fb account of SML. Second, main events (Intramurals, Foundation Day) more booths, activities, fun games and fund areas, this will make every department unite as one. Third, pera sa basura where in the SML will collect old magazines, newspapers, mineral bottles and cans. The accumulated money or half of the money from these things will go to the highest earner department and half of it will go to the SML to use as a fund for future and planned activities. Fourth, liquid soap for every comfort rooms this will serve as a protection from any diseases. Fifth, mirror for every comfort room for enhancing confidence of every students to beautify one self. Fifth, outreach programs with the SBO Officers for the Lormanians to get in touch with other people outside Lorma. Last leadership training. These are the platforms of the LOAD Party that they are going to do if they will win the 2011 SML Election. During the grand rally one audience throw a lot of clarification regarding the accomplishments of the past administration where in Bernadette Flor Curilan belongs. She was an outgoing SML treasurer last year. She became dominant in answering all questions being thrown by the audience to both parties and giving less chance to the other members and other party to talk. She also became aggressive during that time.
