com/dictionary/british/slur This does not, however, alter the rhythm of the music and the remainder of the time allotted for each staccato note is played as rest.(adica daca ai de candtat o patrime cu staccato, apesi scurtprompt pe clapa si iei degetul, restul timpului ramas alocat unei patrimi fiind de fapt mut) The opposite musical articulation of staccato is legato, signifying long and continuous notes.[5] Visual example: Staccato: Do Re Mi Fa (in 4/4) VS Legato: Doo Ree Mii Faa((tot in 4/4, adica acelasi interval de timp; Generally, legato is used to add a more fluid, smooth sound to the passage being played.) A slur is a symbol in Western musical notation indicating that the notes it embraces are to be played without separation. This implies legato articulation. The slur is not to be confused with two other similar musical symbols. The tie is a curved line that links two notes of the same pitch to show that their durations are to be added together(~dotted notes). The phrase mark is a curved line that extends over a passage which is visually indistinguishable from the slur, and indicates that the passage is to be interpreted as a single phrase. A slur is a curved line used to indicate that notes should be played smoothly (legato) and in one breath. The notes are of different pitches and can be of different types. A slur can (be) extended over two or several notes at a time, sometimes encompassing several bars of music. A phrase mark (or less commonly, ligature) is a mark that is visually identical to a slur, but connects a passage of music over several measures. A phrase mark indicates a musical phrase and may not necessarily require that the music be slurred. In vocal music, a phrase mark usually shows how each syllable in the lyrics is to be sung. The length of a whole note all depends on the tempo. A whole note in 60 BPM may be around 4 seconds while 140 BPM may be 2 seconds (not exact times here :))

. This longer note, to which any grace notes can be considered harmonically and melodically subservient (except in the cases of certain appoggiaturas, in which the ornament may be held for a longer duration than the note it ornaments), is called the principal in relation to the grace notes
