Michael Van Etten 11/14/2011 Lesson Plan- Dissection of virtual frog, cat, and cow eye Standards: Demonstrate

e creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues. Dissect animal specimens to expose and identify internal structures. Lesson Objective(s): Students will be able to describe and explain the structure and functions of a frog, fetal pig and cow eye. Students will be able to dissect a virtual frog to identify internal structures. Experiment and dissect the structures of a real fetal pig and cow eye. Understand the basic directional terminology associated with the dissection of specimen. Introduce the Learning Activity: Bell ringer/introduction: What do humans, cats, frogs, and sharks have in common? (hint: think internally) Students will complete a virtual frog dissection to introduce the organs of the body. Students will go to Edmodo to find the link This will give the students an idea of the placement of the organs and to develop questions they may have. Provide Information:
The students will be given further information regarding the functions and structure of the Human body during the lecture part of class after the first dissection. The teacher will go over the worksheet for each dissection that needs to be done. The teacher will give a guide to safety and tools when performing in lab dissections.

Provide Practice: The students will complete the assignments on the functions and structures of the specimens and homework. The students will conduct a virtual frog dissection to identify internal structures and methods of how to dissect a frog. Students will dissect a cat and cow eye in small groups of two or three.

Provide Knowledge of Results: The teacher will provide verbal feedback to the students on their practice efforts by answering questions during the dissections. The teacher will provide written feedback to the students on their practice efforts by correcting the worksheets, lab practical and the results of the online quizzes. Review the Activity: Students will be participating in a virtual frog dissection. Students will review worksheets on dissections. Students will take a quiz during class or finish for homework. Method of Assessment: Students will be evaluated on how well they are able to do the virtual frog dissection, pig dissection, and eye dissection based on teacher observation. The teacher will come around and check each students progress for each structure during in-class dissections. Students will be assessed on from their worksheet they will hand in. Students will be assessed on their learnings in class by taking a quiz on Edmodo at the end of the virtual dissection.
Student will be given a lab practical to evaluate knowledge of lab skills and to identify the parts of a frog, cat, and cow eye.
