UPLIFT LOAD TEST PROCEDURE Foundation Uplift Load Tests, Construction of 132kV OHTL and Cable at Tabouk Tabouk, Saudi Arabia
The uplift load test on the pad and chimney foundation of the 132kV OHTL will be conducted in general accordance with ASTM D-3689 Standard Test Method for pad and chimney under Uplift Loads Quick Load Test Method. A typical test set up is shown on the attached sketch. Procedure for Uplift Load Test Foundation The factored uplift load for the pad and chimney foundations is as follows:
Foundation Type Pad and Chimney Design Load, kg (100%) 81,980 Maximum Test Load, kg 163,960

Structure Type TT

Note: The above loads are provided to us by NCC.

The foundation will be tested up to the maximum test loads. The load will be applied to the test foundations in accordance with the percentage increase and time duration indicated below. The uplift load to the stub angle will be applied by two hydraulic jacks each of 300 tons capacity. The jacks will be acting on an I-beam type loading head which will be welded to the stub angle of the foundation. The reaction force will be provided by two main girders consisting of 12-m long I-beams having 0.9-m inner web spacing. The main girders will be placed on leveling bases placed on the ground. Each leveling base consists of a concrete block. The edge of the leveling base will be kept at a distance of 4.5 m from the center of the foundation. The applied load will be measured with an electronic load cell placed between the hydraulic jacks and the loading head. The applied load will be displayed on a digital read-out unit connected to each load cell. The foundation will be instrumented with three dial gauges, having 100 mm travel and an accuracy of 0.001mm. The dial gauges will be clamped to a steel reference beam supported away from the zone of influence of foundation.
