District 112 takes pride in our collective work to serve the students and families of our communities.

In the last several years, we have embedded a continuous improvement expectation into virtually every aspect of our programs and services. This expectation meant that during the 2010-2011 school year, we continued the implementation of our Secondary Redesign Initiative, began serious work on implementation strategies for our elementary schools INSPIRE initiative, and engaged staff and community in dialogue to identify current strengths and future goals. Below is a summary of our achievements and standardized testing results for the 2010-11 school year. Summary of Progress on Key Initiatives High Schools Second phase of new courses from secondary redesign program introduced Year Two of Physics First initiative successful with all 10th graders taking chemistry after taking physics in 2009-10 Introduction of accelerated English and science courses allowed students to move more quickly into elective courses in Areas of Interest, which are: o Arts & Communications o Global Studies o Health and Social Sciences o STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Introduced capstone course options to students (required for the class of 2013) Middle Schools Learning targets written in kid-friendly language -- posted on a daily basis in classrooms Development and implementation of common formative assessments for students Staff professional development shared across all three middle schools to ensure common practices and standards at all facilities Expanded electives that align with the high schools four Areas of Interest Elementary Schools Teachers trained at the Science House (part of the Science Museum of Minnesota) in preparation for STEM embedment into elementary school curriculum Initiated development of Dual Language Spanish program for rollout in 2012 Development of Continuous Improvement Model that allows students to progress through curriculum as they are able, rather than being limited by traditional age/grade configurations

Summary of Standardized Testing Results The District continues to show performance on standardized tests that outperform state averages. Reading scores were anywhere from seven to 13 points better than the state average, while math scores ranged from one to 17 points higher than state averages.
