Website : www.iiie-india.com Student Enrolment The Institution conducts Graduateship Examination as external Ex amination for enabling candidates to qualify for GRADUATE MEMBERSHIP of the inst itution. Over 5,000 persons have qualified for Examination and about 300 qualify every year. Recognition of the Graduateship Examination A pass in the Graduateship Examination is recognized by the Government of India at par with a Bachelor s Degree in Industrial Engineering from a recognized India University for the purpose of recruitment to superior posts and services under t he Central Government.

Later, the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare (Department of Education) wa s absorbed into a new Ministry, Ministry of Human Resources Development. The Ministry of Human Resources Development later divested itself of the functio n of Recognition and transferred the same to All India Council of Technical Educ

ation (AICTE), a newly created autonomous body. On reference to AICTE, the Counc il has referred us back to MHRD for recognition And our examination already has the Ministry s Recognition. Many major companies in India have recognized this Graduateship examination for favour of promotions, higher increments etc. The Institution of Engineers (India) Kolkata has recognized the Graduateship exa mination of IIIE vide their letter (EEA/Ad/03(B) 1.04.2005) Top Admission Requirements The Examinations are open only for the student Members of the Institution and wh ose membership continues to remain Valid. The requirements for eligibility to st udent Membership of the Institution: Person should not be less than 18 years of age and should possess one of the fol lowing qualifications: A pass in the Higher Secondary (XII Standard) Examination under the 10 + 2 + 3 S cheme of Education, of a Statutory Board of Higher Secondary Education, the Inte rmediate Examination, recognized as equivalent thereto and has at least two year s working experience in an organisation. Completed and passed first two years of regular degree course in Engineering / T echnology. A Graduate in Arts, Science, and Commerce etc, and has at least one year working experience in an organisation. A Diploma (3 yrs course) in Engineeringffechnology recognized by the concerned D irector of Technical Education and at least one year working experience in an or ganisation. In case, a candidate has undergone 1 year service training as a part of the course recongnised by Board of Apprenticeship Training, Govt. of India. This will be counted as working experience. A Degree in Engineering / Technology of a University in India or equivalent qual ification recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as equivalent. Note: A candidate should have experience in an organisation as mentioned under ( a), (c) & (d) after passing the qualifying examination. Working experience shoul d be exclusive of the period if any spent in training as part of the qualifying educational Programme. The person should also abide by the Rules and Regulations laid down by the Insti tution for Student Members and his / her membership should continue to remain va lid by timely clearance of all his / her dues.

The Scheme and Subjects of the Examination The Examinations consist of three parts of written papers viz. the Preliminary, the Section A and the Section B. In addition, a project work has to be undertake n and Report submitted for acceptance. A student can appear for Section A papers only after completely passing the preliminary (or exempted from the preliminary ). B. PROJECT WORK The Student will have to carry out an approved project in an organisation under a project guide. A Project Report has to be submitted to the Board of Examinatio ns after the completion of the Project, for its acceptance. The student is considered to have completed the Graduateship Examination only af ter his/her Project Report has been accepted by the Board of Examinations and su ccesfull completion of viva. Top Exemptions: Students can apply for grant of exemptions which they are entitled to. Exemption

s will be granted only on application by the student and upon scrutiny of the st udents' qualifications. Application form for exemption is appended in this broch ure and list of papers for which exemption, based on qualification can be consid ered are given below. Application for grant of exemptions must be accompanied by the prescribed fee fo r each part and all the necessary documentary evidence of qualifications etc. in the same manner as required for application of Student Membership of the Instit ution. Wherever considered necessary, BOE may ask the student to furnish further detail s like Syllabus, Scheme of examinations, mark list, question papers etc. regardi ng the qualifications on which the student bases his/her claims. The following exemptions may be considered for the Diploma/Degree etc. as shown below against each qualification.

Top MAIN REGULATIONS Student Membership The examination Examinations are open only for the Student Members of the Instit ution and who do not owe dues to the Institution.

A Student member is expected to maintain adequate progress and complete Graduate Examination (including project work) within a period of NINE years (see also a later section on 'Automatic Termination of Student Membership') Attachment to Institution's Chapter On enrolment, a Student Members will be attached to the local Chapter (if there is one) for enabling him/her to participate in its activities. The Chapters woul d also endeavour to provide assistance to Student Members Coaching Classes The Institution has no arrangement for coaching or postal tuition. Any coaching class organized by any individual or organisation without due permission from Bo ard of Examinations (BOE), will be illegal. 4.4. Examination Eligibility: FOR EVERY EXAMINATION, STUDENT HAS TO APPLY ON THE SPECIFIED FORMAT (Website) The examination is open to members of the Institution who do not owe any dues to the institution and have also paid their membership dues for that current year. A student must have passed Preliminary Examination to be eligible tor admission to section 'A' Examination. A student must have passed Section 'A' Examination to be eligible tor admission to Section 'B' Examination. All Correspondence and remittances by the student are to be addressed directly t o the National Head Quarters. No other person or agency is authorised to receive the same on behalf of the Institution. 4.6. Time limit for Enrolment and Application for Examination. The examinations are held twice in a year in February and August as shown below at various chapters and non-chapter centers determined by the Board of Examinati ons. The Limit for Applying for Exemptions The following time limit will be applicable for receiving applications for exemp tions from papers of the Graduateship Examination. Students intending to take February Examination in any year should apply for exe mption before 15th October of the previous year and for the August Examination t

he students should comply with this requirement before 15 April of that year. To avoid delay, students are advised to apply for exemption along with their app lications for membership itself. Validity of Exemption Granted The exemption granted is valid for a period of 4 years only from the date of adm ission. When a partial exemption is granted either from Preliminary or Section A , the student must complete the remaining papers of Preliminary or Section-A as the case may be within 4 years from the date of Admission. Examination Centers The Centers of the Examination will be announced from time to time in the Indust rial Engineering Journal. The Examination will not be held at a Centre where less than 30 students opt to' appear. Students will be required in their applications for admission to the Ex amination to opt for three alternative Centers (from the Centers mentioned below ) in the order of preference. Students found using unfair means at or during the examination, are liable for d isciplinary action in the following manner: The students would be expelled from the Examination Hall instantly. The result of the students would be treated as cancelled. They would not be permitted to appear for the subsequent examinations(s) as may be decided. The maximum penalty in such cases, depending upon the gravity of the offence, wo uld result in debarring the student permanently from appearing for examinations by cancelling his Student Membership The BOE reserves the right to report the student's indulgence in unfair means to his employer. The decision of the BOE on any matter pertaining to the use of unfair means by s tudents at or in connection with the Examinations shall be final. Standards of Passing A student can appear and clear papers of a section in one or more attempts but w ithin the prescribed time limit (see later section on 'Automatic Termination of Student Membership) For each examination, the student can choose the papers he/she wants to appear ( or reappear) The passing marks in any paper shall be 45% of the maximum marks. There will be

no separate requirement regarding aggregate marks to pass the Examination Prelim inary, Section A or Section B. Obtaining a pass in any paper will exempt the stu dents from further appearance in the same paper for the Examination. The standar ds for acceptance of the Project Report are given in the Syllabus alongwith othe r details pertaining to project work. Grant of medals and other awards will be g overned by the rules relating to them. Results of Examination The student will be intimated of the marks obtained by him/her in the papers in which he/she appears and whether he/she passed in those papers. A consolidated m ark list for all the subjects of the examination indicating all exemptions grant ed and marks obtained will be issued only to the students passing the Graduatesh ip Examination completely. Verification of Marks Card If a student wishes that the marks obtained by him/her in any paper should be ve rified, he/she should apply within fifteen days from the date of issue ot intima tion of the results with a fee Rs. 100/- per paper. There is no provision for reassessment of the answer paper but only a verificati on will be carried out. Wherever a mistake is found as a result of the verificat ion. the fee will be refunded. The decision of the BOE will be final in all case s. Completion of Graduateship Examination On completion of the Graduateship Examination (i.e. after the student has passed the Section B Examination and after his/her Project Report has been accepted) t he student qualifies to be elected as a Graduate Member of the Institution and t o a Certificate thereto. Awards The Institution has instituted a Gold Medal for the outstanding student in the G raduateship Examination and two silver medals. The Gold Medal known as S. P. Hat te Gold Medal is named after the late S. P. Hatte, one of the pioneers of the In stitution. The awards are given for every examination. Kerala Chapter of the Institution is the benefactor of the Gold Medal to be awar ded to the student ranking first in the Graduateship Examination held in Februar y every year. The Gold Medal to be awarded to the Student ranking first in the G raduateship Examination held in August every year is donated by the Bombay Chapt er of the Institution. Scheme and Regulations Regulations (awards) No formal 'class obtained' is given in the Consolidated Mark Sheet or Final Cert ificate. However, with respect to students completing the Section-B in January 2004 exami nation or later the following correspondences will apply. Percentage from Total Marks Equivalent Class First Class 60% and above First Class 50% and above Second Class 45% and above Pass Class The percentage from Total Marks will be reckoned as follows All the papers that the student had appeared for in Preliminary, Section-A and S ection-B and Project Work will be taken into account. The percentage concerned will be the percentage of the total of the marks obtain ed by the student in all the papers the student had to appear to the total of th

e maximum marks of these papers. Including Project Work. The Institution awards medals to the first three students from each examination from amongst the students who complete Section-B in that examination. The follow ing criteria will govern the selection of the students for these medals, with ef fect from January 2004 examination. The student must have passed in everyone of the papers in his / her first attemp t (if a student has registered tor a particular paper in section-B but does not appear for the paper it will not be counted as an attempt for that paper) and th e student must complete the Project Work requirement within one year of the publ ication of the result of the concerned examination. The student must have submitted the Project Report within one year of the public ation of the result of the concerned examination and the Project Report should h ave been accepted. From the list of students who qualify under (a) and (b) above the three students obtaining the first three highest percentages will be listed. The student obtaining the highest percentage will be declared the 'BEST STUDENT and awarded the S. P. Hatte Gold Medal. The students obtaining the Second and Third Higher Percentage will be awarded a Silver Medal each. The BOE will notify to the students who secure the first six positions in order of merit, among students who complete Section B examination and are eligible to be considered for the prize under clause 4 (a) above. Of the qualifying persons, the first three will be chosen. Top Award from the Industrial Engineering Journal. The students are encouraged to prepare a paper from their accepted Project Repor t and submit it to the Industrial Engineering Journal for consideration of Publi cation. The Journal considers these papers under a separate category - Student Papers. T he decision to publish will be purely that of the Journal. The Journal gives a Best Student Paper Award each year from amongst the student papers published by the journal during that year. Automatic Termination of Student Membership The membership of a student will stand automatically terminated if the subscript ion dues are not paid before the end of the financial year. A Student member is expected to complete Graduateship examination including Proj ect Work within a maximum period of "NINE" years. Student Membership shall stand automatically terminated, if a Student Member has not passed the Preliminary Ex amination within 3 years of his/ her enrollment. Section A Examination within 6 ye'ars of his / her enrollment: or within 4 years of his/her passing the Prelimi nary Examination or the granting of Exemption to him/herthere from whichever is earlier, Section B Examination along with Project Work within 9 years of his/her enrollment or within 4 years of his/her passing the Section A Examination which ever is earlier. Re-enrolment of a Student Member whose Membership stands automatically terminate d: A person who loses his/her membership under the above mentioned provisions may b e admitted as Student Member (re-enrolled) provided he/she has applied for re-en rollment within one year of his/her losing the Student Membership and he/she sat isfies the conditions for Student Membership in force at the time of his/her app lication for re-enrollment. A re-enrolled person shall not continue as Student Member beyond the period of 1 2 years from the date of his/her admission for the original Student Membership. The membership of a Student member (re-enrolled) shall stand automatically termi nated if he/she does not complete within two years of his admission as Student M ember (Re-enrolled) that section of the Examination for the non completion of wh

ich his/her original Student Membership was terminated. Subsequent to the timely completion of that Section of the Examination the provi sions of Section 3.6 A of the Rules of the Institution shall be applicable. A st udent member seeking reenrollment has to pay Re-enrollment fee of Rs. 500/- and annual subscription at the rate of Rs. 350/- No person shall be re-admitted as S tudent Member (Re-enrolled) for a second time.
