What is Affirmative Action and who is it for? Does Affirmative action still exist today?

Affirmative Action is
a United States policy that was established in 1961. Affirmative Action was developed to protect
individuals from any type of discrimination, such as discrimination because of their sex, racial
background, and religion. Some women were not grantees a fair chance for at high paying jobs over men.
Many people were passed over for jobs due to their ethnic makeup. t's not if they were not qualified
individuals. They were not offered the job because some individuals thought that men could do a better
job in cooperate America than a woman could. Some individuals were denied the right to attend school
because of their skin color. Some women were not hired because they were thought to slow productivity
down. Women were also denied the right to attend school because some individuals thought this was a
waste of time. They believed a women's place was at home taking care of her family. Some individuals
may have to live in horrible conditions because of the way some individuals are small minded. Affirmative
Action is definitely a result and rebuttal to people thinking very small minded thoughts. Discrimination is
developed because some individuals are afraid of the unknown.
A positive result of Affirmative Action is increase of representation of women and minorities in areas of
employment, education, and cooperate America from which they have been historically excluded from.
Affirmative Action is one of the main events in history that help eliminate some discrimination. The women
and minorities that were once denied the right to work, or get an education now feel comfortable enough
to do so. Even if it means stepping out of their comfort zones, such as attending a historically black
college in the south if you are not African American. Due to Affirmative Action religious views has
somewhat been eliminated for schools and the work environment. Affirmative Action has change the way
many people think about attend school, social events, or even applying for a job. Since Affirmative Action
has been established there has been a rise in diversity in schools. The work environment has become
culturally diverse since the establishing of Affirmative Action in 1961. Affirmative Action has also opened
the doors of individuals expressing the individuality, such as the Gay and Lesbian community. Someone
can go as far as saying Affirmative Action is a close relative of the Civil Rights Act. Affirmative Action
lowers the standards of accountability needed pushed people to perform better in school and work
environments. You can even say Affirmative Action affects all aspects of life as well as all individuals from
all walks of life. Affirmative Action is a leader in the fight against equal rights for all humans
Some people believe Affirmative Action is not needed in this era, because of lack of discrimination found.
Some individual believe Affirmative Action has ran its course and is no longer needed. These same
individuals feel that this should be the end of free rides. Because, the wrong people are benefiting from
Affirmative Action. A prime example of Affirmative Action is not needed are a lot of students are attending
school just because they can. And when they attend schools they change their majors often because of
lack of interest. Some people feel that some individuals get into a career or apply for a job they don't want
just because they know they can. These individuals also believe Affirmative Action does not encourage
and individual to follow their own dreams. Some people go as far as saying if you are at a disadvantage
and cannot attend an vy League school, than it's for a good reason. Some people think Affirmative Action
pays your way through school. And all free rides must end, if someone or their family cannot afford to
attend school well they don't need the education. Some people think Affirmative Action is another
government assisted program to get below poverty individuals an education. Affirmative Action does not
pay for any schools or work related training. Some people were not allowed in certain areas because of
the color of their skin or their religious background.
The big question on everyone's mind, Should Affirmative Action continue? The answer to that is yes.
Someone may ask why, well discrimination still exists in the United States. Affirmative Action is a quiet
way to address the discrimination issue. Affirmative Action is still one the leaders fighting to abolish
discrimination in the United States. Affirmative Action prevents discrimination by encouraging efforts to
investigate and eliminate barriers to equal opportunity before they become discrimitory acts. Affirmative
Action is still needed today keep the doors of opportunity open for men and women of different racial
backgrounds. f Affirmative Action is stopped today this will open the flood gates of discriminations of all
kinds. Women would probably push back into cooking and cleaning for their families. Minorities would be
in a constant battle for their rights as a human being.
So, the answer to the question, Should Affirmative Action continue? Definitely who will benefit from
Affirmative Action? Everyone benefits from Affirmative Action, it may not be directly. But everyone in
some point in their life has benefited or will benefit for Affirmative Action. Society today would not exist
has it does without Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action puts a cap on most of the ignorance of small
minded individuals. Just think if Affirmative Action ended these small minded individuals would separate
society as if they were animals. Now it is up to society to continue to change the world and Affirmative
Action is just a stepping stone in that battle. Affirmative Action is not a crutch, but a helping hand to living
in a world where everyone gets along no matter who or what they are. Discrimination can be eliminated
by teaching individuals that because there are individuals who are different in our looks from themselves
does not mean they cannot act intelligent. t does not mean they do not have communication skills. The
next time someone is approached about Affirmative Action they will need to take a good hard look at the
past as well as the future and determine if Affirmative Action is needed in this Era. They also need to
figure out for themselves does Affirmative Action really make a difference in their lives.
