The cultural composition of our school is as follows: Black 32% Hispanic 3% Multiracial 7% White 58% Students with Disabilities 9% Economically Disadvantaged 63% Learning Styles: These 2nd grade learning styles are a mixture of textle, visual, and auditory learners. However, the majority are visual and textile learners. Most are active and reflective learners, with a few sensory and intuitive learners.

. Students in all grade levels are below level in problems solving and using reference materials based on pretest and observations made by the WES Media Specialist. Students are not familiar with The Big6 or Super3 steps in finding solutions to problems using information sources. They understand that a dictionary is used to find the meaning of words, but have difficulty using this resource. They have not used an encyclopedia, thesaurus, almanac, or an atlas. The second grade students are familiar with the alphabet, basic phonics, and identifying fiction and non-fiction books.

Motivation
Elementary students love to solve mysteries and they will be immediately interested in the video with the student detectives discussing the Super3 and how they can solve many mysteries using this process. The mystery the 2nd graders will solve will be as follows:

How can a snake swallow something that is bigger than its mouth? Students will enjoy learning from other children and see that the process they are learning will help them in all areas of learning. As a summary of the lesson, students will view a musical rap of the Super3 performed by fifth graders. They will see the process used and feel confident that they can follow this process as well and see how they can find the answers to the questions they have using a variety of informational resources. This will serve as an introduction to the Super3 process. As students learn the process and then complete a project using the Super3. They will be able to make their detective hat and magnifying glass. They will also earn a certificate and badge once they have mastered the process.

Objectives:
After reviewing the Super3 process, 2nd grade students will be given a problem and will create a reasonable plan with the 3 steps to find the answer to a question using at least 3 informational resources. After viewing the instructional video of the Super3, 2nd grade students will be able to list the 3 steps in the process with 100% accuracy for mastery.
