Officials say 1,650 people were injured in the 7.2-magnitude quake which had its epicentre in Van province - 185 people have been rescued alive. Rain and snow are hindering the rescue effort and worsening conditions for the t housands of people made homeless. Tents and other aid supplies are being delivered after some initial criticism th at the response was too slow. Hundreds of people are still missing under collapsed buildings. Rescuers in some places are continuing to search for those buried in the rubble, but at other sites they have stopped work and attention is turning to the needs of the survivors. People in the hardest-hit town, Ercis, have formed long queues to try to get hol d of tents but many have been told there are none left. "Everyone is getting sick and wet," said Fetih Zengin, a 38-year-old whose house was badly damaged. "We have been waiting in line for four days and still nothing." Rescue efforts are continuing in the worst hit town, Ercis, but have ended in th e city of Van "We slept under a piece of plastic erected on some wooden boards we found. We ha ve 10 children in our family," he told the Reuters news agency. Another survivor, Zeki Yatkin, lost his father in the quake. "They say we will get prefabricated houses in one-and-a-half months," he said, i n an interview with Reuters. "We can t tolerate the cold, but what else can we do?" Gripped by fear Some survivors have accused Turkey s governing AK party of handing out aid prefe rentially to the families of public servants and policemen, ignoring ordinary pe ople.

The governor of Van province, Munir Karaloglu, has denied this. He says 20,000 tents have already been distributed and he blamed fear for exacer bating the problems. "Because of the psychology and the aftershocks, they don t use their undamaged h ouse and ask for a tent" he said. "This is why we have a problem." South-eastern Turkey was hit by another strong aftershock on Thursday of magnitu de 5.2, but there are no reports of any further casualties. Seismologists say the epicentre was located near the border between Turkey and I raq, south of Van province. The Turkish government had initially said it did not need any help from abroad, but later changed its mind. Ankara accepted an offer of clothes, blankets and other supplies from Israel, de spite the recent deterioration in their relationship. Taliban commanders said on Wednesday that they get weapons and training from Pa kistani military spy agency to fight foreign troops in Afghanistan. Notwithstanding a quick denial from the Pakistani military, the allegations coul d potentially worsen the normalising ties between Pakistan and the US following months of political rhetoric and belligerent statements from US officials. A number of middle-ranking Taliban commanders revealed the extent of Pakistani s upport in interviews for a BBC Two documentary series Secret Pakistan the first pa rt of which was broadcast on Wednesday. One Taliban commander, Mullah Qaseem, told the BBC that the important things for a fighter were supplies and a hiding place. Pakistan plays a significant role. F irst they support us by providing a place to hide which is really important. Sec ondly, they provide us with weapons, he said, according to excerpts provided by t he BBC. Other Taliban commanders described how they and their fighters were, and are, tr ained in a network of camps on Pakistani soil. According to a commander using the name Mullah Azizullah, the experts running th e training are either members of the ISI or have close links to it. They are all ISI men. They are the ones who run the training. First they train us about bombs; then they give us practical guidance, he said. Another Taliban fighter, known as Commander Najib, said al Qaeda trainers also o perated in the camps, talent spotting possible suicide bombers. I was in the camp for a month They were giving us practical training in whatever weapons we specialised in suicide bombers were taken to a different section and kept apart from us. Those who were taught to be suicide bombers were there, he sa id. A former head of Afghan intelligence told the BBC Afghan officials gave former p resident Pervez Musharraf information in 2006 suggesting Bin Laden was hiding in Mansehra, a town just 20 kilometres from Abbottabad, but that the information w as not acted upon. Amrullah Saleh, head of the Afghan intelligence from 2004 to 2010, said Syed Akb ar, a Pakistani believed to be smuggling guns to the Taliban, told the Afghan in telligence he had escorted Bin Laden from one location to another. The information we had was suggesting Mansehra was the town where Bin Laden was h iding after so many years, it turns out that Bin Laden was about 12 miles from t hat location, he said. Saleh and Afghan President Hamid Karzai took the evidence to Musharraf who, acco rding to Saleh, reacted angrily. The US is ratcheting up pressure on Pakistan asking the country to squeeze the m ilitants in their safe havens in the tribal regions. In an apparent move to bludge on Islamabad into compliance, thousands of Nato and Afghan troops amassed on the border with North Waziristan. On Wednesday Pakistani officials accused Nato helicopters of violating Pakistans air space over the North Waziristan Agency. Two helicopters intruded several kilometres inside Pakistani territory in Datta K hel town around 2:00 am, an unnamed military official told AFP. The helicopters flew in from the Afghan province of Paktia and circled the borde r village of Zoi Nara for more than five minutes, the official in Peshawar said. The police said the two grenade attacks carried out by suspected militants were aimed at CRPF bunkers in the city. Three CRPF personnel were wounded when unknown militants hurled a grenade on the ir bunker at 132 Battalion CRPF Akhara Building, Maisuma, a police spokesman said . The injured personnel from Maisuma, which is around 500 yards from Lal Chowk, we re rushed to the hospital. The second grenade was hurled on the CRPF bunker at Batamaloo, some three km fro m Srinagar. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported in Batam aloo. In south Kashmirs Shopian district, unknown persons hurled a grenade at a police party. However, the grenade did not explode and was later defused by the police. In yet another incident, a constable sustained critical injuries when unidentifi ed gunmen shot at him near the general bus stand in Ananatnag, South Kashmir. So far, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
