The stories oI The Necklace and the Jewelry were written by Guy De Maupassant. This stories were created
between 1881 and 1886. Both oI the story was woman oriented. Both oI the story show the womans` Ieatures
that is common. The thought oI being beautiIul and looking wealthy is one oI the most attractive things
between most oI the woman. And also these emotion makes them jealous.
The story oI jewelry introduce the ironical relationship between being beautiIul and looking beautiIul.
Mrs.Lantin is a beautiIul woman. He married with Mr. Lantin. He is a civil servant working under the minister
oI the interior. Mrs. Lantin pleased with her husband. She conducted household with such a clever ecenomy
that they lived in luxury.Similarly, The story Necklace is about to being wealthy and looking beautiIul. Matilde
loisel was born in poor Iamily. Although she wanted to married rich man, he had to choose to marry with little
clerk, so she seems that se did not love his husband. Matilde Loisel desire to be an attractive woman. He
obsessed with jewelry, Iancy and the liIe that with them.
Although both oI the character are diIIerent some ways, They like eachother some ways. These woman was
Iond oI pinning jewelry, tonning out and dressed well. Wealthy and looking elegant is important Ior them,so the
jewelry was crucial Ior them because it is the symbol oI being weathy and looking elegant. Both oI them are

dutiIul wiIe but they are dissatisIied and selIish woman because their husbands worked hard all day. While their
husbands worked all day, their aims thinking oI wealthy things. Mrs. Lantin always went to theatre and he
want to be as the other woman. Others have lots oI jewelry or weathy things. Similarly, Matilde Loisel want to
go ball that is arranged Ior the rich people. When he Iound the oppurtunity to go this ball, his Iirst aim become
looking wealthy . Moreover, they had a jealous. It is a common sense oI between woman. They envy the others
because they had a lots oI good things such as jewelry but Mrs. Lantin and Mathilde loisel did not have them,
so they Ieel sheepish and they were under the inIlunce oI their passion.In addition, They ashamed, so they
wanted to pin the jewely. Because it a symbol. A woman who dressed well and pinning jewelry. II they did not
pin the jewelry, they Iell ashamed. It is the demonstration oI prideIulness. A good example oI her prideIulness
is when Mathilde says that there is ""I`m nothing more humiliating than looking shabby in the company oI rich
women"
When we look at the their liIes and ideas, we see main Ieatures that like eachother. It is not exact that they are
whether moral or not. but they are the victim oI their passions. Maybe this is the answer. They did not pleased
their liIe. They want more and more. They did not gain advantage Irom this. Mathilde had to live a liIe that is
worse than his normal liIe because oI the misunderstanding. She lost her most important thing. This is the
beauty. Similarly, Theatre and opera was important Ior Mr Lantin. Because it is place that come rich people. He
died Ior the sake oI going Opera. One night, he went to opera and come back home Ireezing, she had a bad
cough and later died Irom phonumonia. Greedy, envy and wanting more did not provide a good liIe them. They
are under the inIluence oI their passions, so they did not become really happy.
