CELEBREX
Celecoxib Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs

MECHANISM OF ACTION Thought to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, primarily via inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby producing antiinflammatory, analgesic, and anti-pyretics effects.

DOSAGE/ROUTE Capsules: 100mg, 200mg

INDICATION Relief from signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis. Relief from signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis Acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea.

CONTRAINDICATION

SIDE EFFECTS

Patients CNS: dizziness, hypersensitive to drug, headache, sulfonamides, aspirin insomnia or other NSAIDs. CV: peripheral Those with severe edema hepatic impairment. EENT:pharyngitis, In women in the third rhinitis, sinusitis trimester of pregnancy. GI: abdominal pain, diarrhea, Use cautiously in dyspepsia, patients with history of flatulence, nausea ulcers or GI bleeding, advanced renal Musculoskeletal: disease, dehydration, back pain anemia, symptomatic liver disease, Skin: rash hypertension, edema, heart failure or asthma.

NURSING CONSIDERATION Educate the patient about the effect of the drug. Know if they have allergies to the drug. Instruct patient to promptly report signs of GI bleeding such as blood in vomit, urine, or stool. Instruct the patient to take drug with food if stomach upset occurs. Inform patient that it may take several days before he feels consistent pain relief. Rehydrate the patient first if dehydrated.

INDICATION Uncomplicated UTIs Otitis media Pharyngitis and tonsillitis Perioperative prevention Secondary bacterial infection of acute bronchitis

CONTRAINDICATION

Patients CNS: phlebitis. hypersensitive to drug, thrombophlebitis or other cephalosporins GI: nausea, anorexia, vomiting, Use cautiously in diarrhea patients hypersensitive to Hematologic: penicillin because of transient possibility of crossneutropenia, sensitivity with other eosinophilia, beta-lactam hemolytic anemia, antibiotics. thrombocytopenia Use cautiously in breastfeeding women and in patients with history of colitis and renal insufficiency. Skin: maculopapular and erythematous rashes, temperature elevation, tissue sloughing at I.M. injection site

NURSING CONSIDERATION Educate the patient about the effect of the drug. Know if they have allergies to the drug. For I.M. adminidtration, inject deeply to large muscle mass. Instruct the patient to take drug with food. Monitor the patient for signs and symptoms of superinfectio,.

Advise patient to increase fluid intake.

CAPOTEN Captopril Antihypertensives

MECHANISM OF ACTION Thought to inhibit ACE, preventing conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. Reduced formation of angiotensin II decreases peripheral arterial resistance, decreasing aldosterone secretion, which reduces sodium and water retention and lowers blood pressure.

DOSAGE/ROUTE

INDICATION

CONTRAINDICATION pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimester) patients hypersensitive to drug or other ACE inhibitors

SIDE EFFECTS CNS: dizziness, fainting, headache, fatigue, malaise CV: tachycardia, hypotension, angina pectoris Respiratory: dyspnea GI: abdominal pain, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting Musculoskeletal: back pain Skin: rash
