The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is 516 613 a non-profit corporation representing 248 volunteer 518 clubs who operate and maintain Ontarios 41,290 km groomed trail network, including the border-to-border 612 Trans Ontario Provincial (TOP) Trail System. It is the law in Ontario for recreational sleds* using OFSC Prescribed Snowmobile Trails to have and display a valid 26 Snowmobile Trail Permit. Fines for failure to comply range from a minimum of $200 to a maximum of $1,000.
*exemptions or partial exemptions apply for specific user groups.

Each OFSC Trail Permit sold applies to an individual sled, regardless of who is riding it. Thats why the trail permit you buy is only valid when affixed to your sled in the prescribed front and centre, visible location. Its not valid in your pocket: a trail 30 20 warden has the right to require your trail permit to be stuck onto 46 your sled immediately.

11 When you purchase an OFSC Trail Permit, 88% of your money 40 for Provincial Trail Programs, club goes back onto the snow 20 pay 43 to trail operations, grooming, signage, bridges and equipment. The 34 balance goes to the OFSC to pay for the other provincial 12 330 programs such as safety, environment and communications, as well as, the administration costs of 16 running the worlds largest 44 25 snowmobiling association. Both your local club and the OFSC are 34 non-profit organizations with mandate to put your permit money 20 to work on the trails you ride. Because this permit money goes
first and foremost to the selling clubs, it is in your own best interest to ensure that you buy from the local club whose trails you ride the most.

Being a Safe Rider and riding responsibly is a personal choice you make every time you operate a snowmobile. To make snowmobiling a safe recreational activity and reduce your own risk of injury or death, here are some of the safe riding behaviours that will help you make smart choices: review and understand all safety materials provided 24 with your sled 20 stay on the marked OFSC trail 20 keep to the right side of the trial slow down on all corners and when cresting hills avoid consuming alcohol while riding wear an approved snowmobile helmet always ride with a buddy stop before crossing roads and railway tracks use the approved snowmobile hand signals wear reflective clothing at night carry an emergency survival kit Remember, snowmobiling can be a high risk activity if you do not ride safely and responsibly. The legal provincial speed limits for snowmobiles are: 50 km/hr on trial; 20 km/hr on highways with automobile speed limits of 50 km/hr or less; and 50 km/hr on highways with automobile speed limits of more than 50 km/hr. TRESPASSING
Snowmobiling on OFSC trails without a permit is not only unfair and inconsiderate of those who are paying their own way or those who are working so hard to 20 maintain great trails for your riding pleasure, but it can also be in violation of the Trespass to Property Act and subject to charges and 20 fines. Police forces, conservation officers, and OFSC wardens regularly patrol Ontario trails.
