Balmer Lawrie started its corporate journey as a Partnership Firm on 1st


February 1867 at Kolkata, Iounded by two Scot men - George Stephen Balmer
and Alexander Lawrie.
From Tea to Shipping, Insurance to Banking, Trading to ManuIacturing - there

Balmer Lawrie-Van Leer Limited is a joint venture between Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. and Royal Packaging ndustries
Van Leer NV (Van Leer ndustrial Packaging - A Business of Grief Bros. Corporation, USA). Close to 80% of the shares
are held by the promoters (50:50), the balance being with the public. The shares are listed in BSE.

BLVL's products are manufactured at their state of art, ISO 9001 certified factories
at Mahul, Mumbai & Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The products can be broadly divided into
two segments.

AVI-OIL India (P) Ltd. is a joint venture oI Indian Oil Corporation Limited (25),
Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. (25) and NYCO SA oI France, established Ior the
indigenous production/supply oI Aviation & allied lubricants to the DeIence Services,
Civil Aviation and the Industrial Sector.
The lubricants comprise a range of high performance oils, greases and specialities,
mostly synthetic, designed to meet the stringent requirements of operation over a
wide temperature range and often hostile environment.
The manufacturing plant of AVI-OIL is located at village Piyala, in Faridabad
District, Haryana, 45 KM from New Delhi.

is a joint venture between Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. (50%) and ICICI Venture
Capital Limited (50%). The areas of operation of the company include:
NBFC Operations: Operating lease of Marine Freight Containers, derivatives and
other related equipment/ service.
Logistics Operation: Cold chain, Trailer operations, consolidation, breaks
bulking, ware housing, Depot/yard operations etc. The company has
pioneered the use of multi-axle 45 feet road containers under its brand
name "Indo Trailers" for use in the "Hub & Spoke" concept in the logistics
field.

The state of the art process technologies for manufacture of lubricants & in-place quality
management systems / standards are the key drivers for products & services conforming to
specifications, being fit for the purpose, zero defects, customer satisfaction and value
addition. The SBU for its sustainability has laid adequate internal MIS & control measures for
Environmental Management system and all its plants are accredited / certified to ISO 9001:
2000 and ISO 14001: 2004, including OHSAS 18001 certification to its Chennai Plants. It
has also strategised to focus on eco-friendly products including biodegradable lubricants and
exports. The SBU is committed to environment protection to combat challenges in global
warming & ozone depletion.

SBU : Greases & Lubricants have achieved milestones in field trials of new
generation traction gear compound & suspension bearing oil with Indian Railways,
Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid and establishes several products like Race 4T as per
JASO MA2 specification, Gold Premium CI4 15 40 engine oil, expander oil, new
generation sulphonate complex & synthetic lithium complex greases etc.
SBU: Greases & Lubricants has also overshoot its budgeted profit to Rs.7.16
crores in 2008-09 and achieved turnover growth of 7.25% over last year in spite
of drop in volume by 8.5%.
