On Monday 21st November Year 2 travelled to the Amazonian Rainforest, in Brentford, to find out all about the animals that live there. We were lucky enough to have a hands-on experience and held a variety of tropical animals including a python, hissing cockroaches, stick insects and a pair of water dragons, one of which was called Jemima! During our talk we learnt all about camouflage and how it protects some of the animals from predators. We learnt about the importance of rainforest conservation and why trees are important to us. In addition we got to stroke a Dwarf Caiman although we werent allowed to hold him just in case he was in a bad mood!! We got to experience the heat and humidity of a tropical rainforest as we wandered under the canopy looking at the different animals. We witnessed the boa constrictors eyeing up their rat lunch and fed the Koi Carp, observing how they ate and breathed. There was an African Spurred Tortoise called Becks who was allowed to wander around the zoo. He was 6 years old and joined the zoo in 2001. Everyone had an amazing time and learnt lots about the animals of the rainforest, we even learnt what tree poo is!
Brampton Primary is a restorative school where the initial response to conflict is to find a solution where things are put right, the victims needs are met whilst also meeting the needs of the wrong doer and meet all the schools responsibilities.

Last week Miss Lambert and Mrs Hood attended a Restorative Justice conference training course in order to further improve our practice throughout school and at lunchtimes. This means we use the following model when dealing with children and any behaviour difficulties.

When things go wrong at playtimes and lunchtimes we follow the model below, using the questions underneath. Many thanks to Lynne Russell for the use of her materials here. We found the conference really useful to help us consider how well Restorative Justice is going at Brampton and what we need to do to do it even better. It was really helpful to hear from other schools who are using the same approach and to offer a little advice to those new to this approach.

We know that this approach will improve relationships and help overcome difficulties for children, staff and parents. We hope to have Lynne back in the new year to share her work with our parents. You might want to try the ideas at home too! Voluntary Contributions. When school trips are arranged staff do look to get the best fare for transport costs. Unfortunately fuel costs now do make coach travel more expensive. The staff then combine this with any entrance fees or costs for teaching activities and divide the total by the number in the class. There is no profit being made. Whilst we try to give parents as much warning as possible of forthcoming events if there is any short fall towards the total, then the school has to pay the difference. We do understand that times are hard and for that reason we always offer for parents to spread the cost over a number of weeks. Unfortunately we also have a tight budget and can not afford to run too many trips at a loss and therefore do ask parents to speak to staff if there are any difficulties.
