Prompt: In Keeping with Dr. Kings message of the Courage to Believe, what can you do to promote equality in your community, neighborhood, or school in order to create a more tolerant and just society? Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Have you ever had that bad feeling where you feel like you are being mistreated? That horrible feeling in which you suffer mentally, emotionally, or even physically? That feeling happens to all of us and is dreadful in many ways. This malicious intent is an act of disgust and causes much pain and misery. An answer to this misery is to promote equality. Equality creates a euphoric society where everyone is happy. One can promote equality in the community, neighborhood, or school by eliminating segregation and stereotyping. One major type of inequality is segregation. Segregation is the act of separating people from different people. This act causes diverse or different people to feel unaccepted and mistreated. One can eliminate segregation in many different ways. One way would be in not taking part in segregating. Another way to eliminate segregation would be to convince others not to take part in segregation. These two methods only scratch the surface on how segregation can be eliminated in the community, neighborhood, or school.

Another major type of inequality is stereotyping. Stereotyping is the act of dividing races and creating opinions on different races based on experiences with different races. These stereotypical opinions are usually negative and cause people of a certain race to feel mistreated and excluded. Stereotyping often occurs when people are being pessimistic towards others. One can eliminate stereo typing in many different ways. One would be end any negative stereotypes by convincing others the stereotype is not true. Another way to eliminate negative stereotypes would be to not take part in the creating or spreading of stereotypes. These two techniques can help one eliminate stereotyping and its negative results. Segregation and stereotyping play a huge role in creating inequality. These actions always result in people feeling mistreated and morose. To reverse the effects of these negative influences, one needs to take serious countermeasures. These include one not taking part and convincing others not to take part in these cynical acts. By performing these counter actions, the world can strive to be a much better place. A place of equality for everyone and a more tolerant and just society.
