SALEM AREA HOLIDAY PARADE!The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual holiday parade on Saturday, December 10th starting at 10:00 am. The parade will begin and end at Salem Art Works on West Broadway. From Salem Art Works, the parade will march along Williams Street, Railroad Street, Main Street, Park Place and Archibald Street. After the parade, children are invited to follow Santa and Mrs. Claus to A&J Enterprises at 7 Thomas Street where they can talk one-onone with Old Saint Nick. Its not too late to enter a float in the parade. The Chamber welcomes floats decorated with a Christmas or holiday theme, pets dressed up for the holidays, antique cars or farm equipment, fire departments, clowns, music, youth and veteran groups, as well as others. Kids are encouraged to dress up their bikes (and themselves) and walk or ride in the parade. Local businesses are also invited to create a float for the day. There is no cost to enter and trophies are awarded to the top three floats. The theme of the parade is Come Together, as this community has done more than once this past year. Contact Janet Swears at 8549977 to enter a float. A craft fair at Proudfit Hall runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Bring a donation for the Salem Food Pantry and be entered to win a prize. Hot cocoa and donuts as well as a hot lunch will be available. There will be plenty of great vendors there for your Christmas shopping pleasure. The Salem Chamber is also sponsoring a Village decorating contest. We are asking residents and businesses to decorate, decorate, decorate, says Janet Swears, President of the Chamber. A $50 prize will be awarded to a residence and a business. Judging will take place by Santas Secret Helpers during the few days prior to the December 24th announcement of the winners. We welcome the public to cast a vote too for any business or residence that is decorated. Stop by Jackson Traders or Lauras Garden and well pass your vote on to Santas Secret Helpers.
