STATE GOAL 8: Use algebraic and analytical methods to identify and describe patterns and relationships in data, solve problems and predict results. o Solve simple number sentences (e.g., 2 + = 5). o 8.A.2b Construct and solve number sen-tences using a variable to represent an unknown quantity. o 8.C.1 Describe the basic arithmetic opera-tions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) orally, in writing and using concrete materials and drawings. o 8.D.1 Find the unknown numbers in whole-number addition, subtraction, multiplication and division situations.

405 Web 2.0 Lesson Plan Kara Stack Rebecca Iverson Katie Weimer Materials: One computer per group of 2 students (computer lab) Projector Web 2.0 application for storybooks http://www.tikatok.com/ Math textbook Implementation/Procedure: Time

5 min. the lesson by reading the book The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins. Begin

Opening of lesson:

Following the book ask the students questions based on the book in relation to 405 Web 2.0 Lesson Plan mathematics. Kara Stack What mathematical operations were discussed in the book? Rebecca Iverson What type of sharing occurred in the book? (Was equal sharing used?) Weimer Katie Did using a story help you to understand the concept of division better? Continue the discussion until you feel that the students have a firm grasp of the concept of division and the use of word problems. (Does everyone receive the same amount of cookies in the book) Procedures: Tell students, Today you will get the opportunity to create your own story using word problems with division. You and your partner will share a computer and use a specific Web 2.0 application to create a storybook online. Either choose their partners for them or let the students pick their own partners. Line students up and transition to the computer lab. Have two students to one computer (partners) Write the website for the Web 2.0 application on the board. www.tikatok.com/ Write the main points on the board and verbally relay them to the students. *Story must include: Pictures and wording included in storybook A division problem incorporating a story Needs title page and five story pages Save your story to your name You should have previously created an account for each student. Have students Sign into the web 2.0 application and start creating their book. You can provide an example on how to create a web 2.0 storybook by using a computer and projector. Follow the steps given on the website. While students are working on their own project, be sure to walk around and answer any questions. Summary/Closing: Have the student continuously save their story. When they finish, have the Students save one last time and proof read through their storybook. At the end of the class have the students share their storybooks with the class. The class can work through the problems created in the storybooks together.
