Course Requirements: Chapter Quizzes: Chapter quizzes are online on BrainHoney. These quizzes are open-book but must be taken by the date indicated on the syllabus. Each quiz is worth 20 points. One quiz will automatically be dropped. Quizzes are not timed and you may stop and come back and complete the quiz later if you wish. Late quizzes will be accepted but 5 points will be deducted for each day late. There are generally few acceptable excuses for submitting a quiz late. Reasons such as internet went down, I got sick, I didnt get home in time, I forgot My parents came to visit, etc will not be accepted. Exams. There will be four exams administered. None of the exams are comprehensive. The first three exams will be administered in the Testing Center. The final exam will be in class on July 22nd. Exams will consist of multiple choice items. Each exam will be worth 100 points. Exams will be based on lecture AND text content. PLEASE NOTE THAT ATTENDANCE AT YOUR FINAL TIME IS MANDATORY. Please do not ask to take the final early or at any other time other than your assigned time. Reasons such as flight arrangements, weddings (even your own), missionary farewells, etc. will NOT be considered valid reasons for moving final times around. THANK YOU! Participation. You will all begin with 300 participation points. There will be some in-class assignments you will be expected to complete. If you are not in class to participate, you will lose 50 of those participation points for each lack of response. If you must miss class for a LEGITIMATE reason (e.g. illness), please e-mail me BEFORE class begins, and you will not be penalized for your absence. However, if you do not notify me before class time, you will still be penalized. Class Policies: Questions: First, I would prefer to have a face-to-face contact with my students rather than to communicate via email. I have found that questions which come over the email frequently have follow-up questions after I send my response. Years of experience have taught me that a more efficient use of your time and mine occurs if you will come see me in person, or even call by telephone, so that all questions can be addressed in a give-and-take format at the same time. (One exception is if you will be missing class as explained above.) Your best source of information for simple questions is the syllabus. As you might imagine, I do not have time to respond to questions such as: When is the test?; What is on the test?; Do we have a quiz due?; What did we do in class?; etc. I may respond by simply saying check the syllabus. Please do not be offended if I respond to these questions in this manner as I only have so much time each day. Technology: The BYU-Idaho Learning Model envisions students who have come to class prepared to share ideas, rather than merely receive them. Learning occurs through discussion in which each student listens carefully to the comments of others and seeks the opportunity to add, as inspired, to what is being said. Participating in such a discussion requires careful attention - as though one were with a friend, one-on-one. It is to promote such a learning environment that the University requires, as general policy, that electronic devices be turned off during class time. These devices include laptop computers, cell phones and all other electronic devices. Grades: Chapter Quizzes Exams Participation TOTAL
