Wine that goes with Indian Food

As interesting as the dish may be, so should the wine pairing. The single most important component to be considered with these pairings, is the heat level of the meal.

Light and Dry White Wines

Crisp, dry whites like Pinot Grigio are great with milder curries.

Tempranillo
Young reds made from the Tempranillo varietal (eg Rioja, Navarra) complement lamb based curries, such as Rogan Josh, very well.

Merlot
Young Chilean reds, particularly Merlot, go very well with moderately spicy curries, such as Chicken Tikka.

Chardonnay Blends
New World Chardonnay (and Chardonnay blends) are excellent with chicken curries, especially those with cream in them.

Sparklers
Not suited for the entire meal, but super with deep fried, crispy starters like bhajis, pakoras and samosas.
