Kidney Infection: A Serious Kidney Problem

One of the most serious types of kidney problems is kidney infection. This disease needs professional medical attention in the fastest way possible to avoid more complications. To successfully treat a kidney infection, staying in the hospital is recommended while taking antibiotics. A kidney infection can cause continuing damage to your kidneys if not treated the right way. The infection can spread to your bloodstream which can lead to death if no action will be taken immediately. Kidney problems such as kidney infection may not start in the kidney immediately; but rather the infection often begins in the urinary tract or in the bladder. The bacteria from the urinary tract or from the bladder go upward in the ureters and start to reproduce when they get to the kidneys. People who are prone to having kidney problems are the ones who have poor immune system due to fatigue, stress, or by an illness. What are the two common classifications of kidney infections? I. Glomerulonephritis This kidney disease is also called glomerular disease or glomerular nephritis (GN). It is characterized by the inflammation of the glomeruli tiny blood vessels in the kidneys that function as little filters. About one million glomeruli are found on each kidney. Glomerulonephritis damages the kidneys which will make them incapable of removing excess fluids and wastes out of the body. There are two types of Glomerulonephritis: acute (if there is an abrupt attack of inflammation) or chronic (if it is long-term and is coming on slowly). Signs and symptoms of Glomerulonephritis Hypertension or high blood pressure Nausea or vomiting Fatigue Loss of appetite Paleness Difficulty in breathing An increased body temperature Edema or swelling in the abdomen, ankles, face, feet or hands Change in color of the urine coca cola colored Cloudy or frothy urine

II. Pyelonephritis This kidney disease is a serious infection of the kidney which is caused by bacteria. This kidney disease diet can be acute or chronic. One of the most common kidney problems is acute pyelonephritis, a sudden inflammation caused by bacteria. The main affected area of this condition is the renal pelvis, intestinal area or the renal tubules. On the other hand, chronic pyelonephritis is a constant inflammation of the kidney that can leave scratches to the kidneys. This condition may lead to a chronic renal failure. This kidney problem is most common in patients who are prone to persistent acute pyelonephritis, like those with vesicoureteral reflux or urinary impediments. Some Causes of Pyelonephritis

Backward flow of urine caused by anatomical defect Urethras that are short and in close proximity with the anus causing susceptibility in bacteria(for women) Obstructions in the flow of urine

How to diagnose Pyelonephritis
