Description: This cemetery was mentioned in the deed for property called "Covenant of Peace."

Description: On property of the Howard Hughes Medical Insititute, which would not permit
access to site. Hayes Manor was part of a 700-acre estate built c. 1767. It was owned by the
Dunlop-Laird family from 1792 on.
Comments: According to Farquhar, the remains of Dunlop family members were moved to this
location c. 1891 to keep them with the house, which was still owned by descendants. An obelisk
was inscribed, In Memory of James & Elizabeth Dunlop & their descendents.
Description: Descendant of Crawford family heard family rumor that there was graveyard
associated with house. No cemetery found. Farm is now a housing development but the old house
remains.
Comments:
Description: Surrounded by 4' tall stone wall. Entrance has been filled in w/matching stone. Four
box tombs & seven upright markers with footstones. Two large boxwoods remaining, but have
been cut back. All stones upright. Evidence of prior repairs.
Comments: Stone pillar at street has plaque with historical info on Oatland. House still remains,
but separated from graves by new houses.
Description: In middle of suburban residential development, and now separated from Pleasant
Fields, home of the Waters. Surrounded by locked metal picket fence. Stones in good condition,
1 repaired, 2 overturned. Grass is mowed, no plantings inside fence.
Comments: Associated with Basil Waters House/Pleasant Fields, which is owned by M-NCPPC.
Negative Impacts:
Description: Farm was on north side of Bethesda Church Rd directly opposite intersection with
Purdum Rd, later the Edward Burdette farm. Parson James Day and others buried in family plot
on farm. Cemetery was plowed over in 1960s.
Comments: In 1975, 2 Boyer stones were found at edge of cornfield along fence, along with
other broken stones.

Description: This cemtery was located off Bethesda Church Road. According to Dona Cuttler,
the 7 or 8 fieldstones that were here were removed in the 1940s. The Glaze family house site is
marked each spring by daffodils around the foundation.

Records of Christ Episcopal Church list 4 Andersons buried in the family cemetery.
Comments: Hopkins 1879 Atlas shows Jas. Anderson in vicinity. Graves were close to Rte 355
on 400+ acre farm

Description: Cemetery is at edge of field near hiker/biker trail in Seneca Creek State Park. It is
located across Seneca Creek from Black Rock Mill. Also accessible from Button Farm on Black
Rock Rd. All fieldstones, one with cross carved into it. See file for more information.
Comments: Located in Seneca Creek State Park. Jim Sorensen (county archaeologist) calls this
a slave cemetery.

Description: Cemetery was between old house (east) and Central Baptist church (west). Stones
and iron fence remnant were found under collapsed shed. Archaeology did not find bodies, only
3 headstones, 1 footstone, and 1 base. See file for transcription.
Comments: Fraley Townhouses currently being built here. Gravestones were located on NW
edge of stormwater pond. They have been removed. No bodies located.

Description: The cemetery is located in Darnestown Square Park just east of the intersection with
Seneca Rd. Archaeology found 16 graves, but residents say it may have been closer to 50.
Burials occurred through WWI.
Comments: Believed to originally belong to Darne family and possibly has burials of
Darnestown's founding family.

Description: Ann Gartrell Stabler of 21201 New Hampshire Ave recalls that a slave cemetery is
located on the slope towards Triadelphia Lake on lands formerly owned by the Gartrell family.
More recently was Helen Denit's property and now is a subdivision.

Description: Several trees in center. No fencing. All visible markers are uncarved fieldstones.
Some headstone/footstone arrangements. Many unmarked graves. Stones piled at base of tree &
utility pole.
Comments: Located behind church on triangular lot formed by Seven Locks Rd & church drive.
Church founded in 1906, built in 1915 with 1967 addition to front.

Description: Cemetery is about 250 yards NW of house - in field under power line. No
gravestones, but current owner put up white metal cross in vicinity of graves. Tenant farmer
dragged out a slate marker, now propped against tree by house.

Description: No markers or fencing. It is on land that was owned by Samuel and Rachel Ward in
the 1880s. Their son William Ward is supposed to have been buried here.
Comments: Located in proposed ICC route. Location identified through archaeology done by
the Berger Group and John Milner & Associates in 2005. See info & maps in file.

Description: City required Lucinda Shelton to remove burial(s) to get a building permit.
Sheltons believe Maggie & Henry Shelton's first child (d. 1907-8) was buried here - prior to
opening of Lincoln Park Cemetery.
Comments: Burial(s) relocated to Lincoln Park Cemtery in late 1960s. Cemetery was located at
rear of lot. In late 1960s, only 1 marker was visible.

Description: Remains of 2 male caucasians found during construction of Forest Oak Middle
School. They were reinterred on school grounds after construction completed. Location is on file
with Land Records office.

Description: Located in forest about 1 mile west of Riley's Lock and 1/5 mile north of C&O
Canal towpath at mile 24. 5 headstones with hardcarved inscriptions, 4 are propped against trees.
About 25 fieldstones, some with footstones. Mostly seneca sandstone.
Comments: John Clipper worked as a stonecutter at Seneca Quarry Mill. He built a house
adjacent to canal for himself, his wife, and 10 children. Transcriptions and article in file.

Description: Graves located in front yard about 20' from large tree. No markers present. Duley
farm was sold to developer in 1957. Duley house & cemetery held out and land used for grazing
cows. Cows knocked over stones.
Comments: Son of former owner remembers several Robinson childrens' stones and some
fieldstones, which he thought might be slave burials. See notes in file from interview with Robert
