INTRODUCTION The government of Malaysia has a vision to provide and to share business opportunities with main food processors

and with small and medium industries in halal food processing and manufacturing for domestic and export market. Halal is a Quranic term meaning permitted, allowed or lawful. Halal when used in relation to food and other consumer goods, means permissible for consumption and used by Muslims. Halal Food means food permitted under Islamic Law & should fulfill the following conditions that it does not consist or contain any part or matter of an animal that a Muslim is prohibited by Hukum Syarak to consume or that has not been slaughtered in accordance with Hukum Syarak and does not contain anything which is considered to be impure according to Hukum Syarak . It also has not been prepared, processed or manufactured or handled using any instrument not free from anything impure according to Hukum Syarak and it has not in the course of preparation, processing, manufacturing, handling or storage been in contact with or has been in close proximity to any food that fails to satisfy above rules or anything that is considered to be impure according to Hukum syarak.

HALAL PRODUCTS PERSPECTIVES Halal products perspective can be dividing into Islamic perspective and Industry perspective. In the Islamic perspective, Halal is permissible activity that must be observed by every Muslim. The opposite is haram which is prohibited activity while in Industry perspective; it is use Halal concept that provides good business oportunities for everyone, Muslims or nonMuslims alike.

In the Islamic Perspective, we can see that from the selection of food and drink, and other Consumer products, Islam has laid down 3 very important guidelines: Whether the consumption of the products are halal (permitted) or haram (prohibited) by Allah S.W.T. Whether or not the materials are good and safe to be consumed or used by mankind (thoyyib) Whether the products are obtained through halal or haram means (e.g. source of finance)

In the Industry Perspective, we can see lucrative industry and huge opportunities for halal business such as domestic and international trade and demand for halal food and other Islamic consumer goods is increasing. Food industry globally are looking at the halalan thoyyiba concept as a new tool for marketing. Currently, that is about 1.8 2.0 billion Muslims in this world and to tap this lucrative market, the industry must understand and appreciate the religious and scientific basis of halal requirement.
