The Crises Children Face

Many children now face more difficulties than the past children. It may not seem

likely, but, with the advancement in technology and different methods in discipline of

children, it is truly difficult for children now to face their problems. Children not only

face problems at home but outside whether in school or anywhere else, they may be

confronted with obstacles such as drugs and friends. Though, children may seldom tell of

their problems fearing the consequences of the threats by others to keep it a secret.

Children in the past have faced the same problems, but now it may seem as if they have

more coming at them than before.

At home, it usually would be a quiet place of laughs and smiles between the

family members. But then, the son comes home with a bad report card. Is it still laughs

and smiles? Now, the child has pressure being put on them to have the good grades and

the A’s. The child feels this pressure every time he does homework or takes a test. The

fact is that the child is scared; possibly from the experience before of having a bad report

card. Not only in the academic area, but also the family may not understand how a child

is growing and maturing. In turn, the attitude towards their family may be different. Their

new attitudes may be rebellious toward their family or have a hard time telling them how

they feel about their problems. For example, the child ma feel depressed about something

happening at school, though it is not as big of a deal, their parents sometimes seem they

do not care about their child’s problems but rather their own. These kinds of actions cause
them to have that sense of feeling to be rebellious because their parents no longer

understand them. Thus, children face problems at home but also at school.

Friends, they can truly be a child’s best supporters at times, yet some take

advantage and hurt them. Finding the real friend may not be easy, but from all the peer

pressure from others of course it can be difficult. Peer pressure from friends is what is

strongly faces many problem for children today. Friends may ell them to do this or that

risking them getting in trouble. Children always seem to feel the obligation to “show-off”

in front of their friends, which is why they are daring to do such things. But, then also it

comes a matter of loyalty to friends. Personality wise, true friends would not want you to

get in trouble or become hurt. But then there are those who want you to be loyal and do

what they want you to do. Friends can be difficult sometimes, but outside of school and

families is a whole different world.

Outside of protection from your parents and school, the real world has much more

problems to encounter and face. A teenager can be walking home with groceries while in

the alleyway; a gang comes and threatens him. What should the teenager do? Runaway or

fight? In these kinds of situations it is difficult to choose, the best is to run, but it is

dangerous. Gangs may not be the only problems. But with friends and strangers comes

drugs. Drugs will get anyone in trouble and also a place in prison. These problems are

everything children and teenagers have outside of the protected walls.

With these problems how can children understand so much when they are young?

That is why schools and families are there to protect them. However, even in schools and

homes may not always have the protection needed but they do give learning experiences

on what to do if they encounter a larger, real life problem in the world.
