CHAPTER-2
THEORY & CIRCUIT DETAILS FIBER OPTIC ANALOG TRANSMITTER/RECEIVER
The Analog Transmitter/Receiver System consists of following sections. 1. Audio Sinewave Generator 2. Analog signal transmitter 3. Analog signal receiver 4. Input audio amplifier 5. Output audio amplifier 6. Power supply. (1) Audio Sinewave Generator section:IC 1 (ICL 8038) waveform generator IC is used generate sine wave signal. Pot P2 (22K) is used to vary its frequency. The frequency range is 300 Hz to 3.4 KHz. Two 100K presets are adjusted for proper peaks of sine wave signal. 1K preset is used to adjust duty cycle. The sine wave output signal is available at pin 2 of IC1 and it is then amplified by IC4 (LM356). The amplified output is available Sinewave output terminal. Pot P2 is used to vary the amplitude of Sinewave signal. The output amplitude vary from 0 to 5 Vpp. (2) Analog Transmitter section :Here IC 741 is used to amplify input analog signal. The amplified signal is then given to source Fiber LED of 820 nm. This LED converts electrical signal into light signal and is then transmitted in fiber optic cable. (3). Analog signal receiver section:The received light signal is converted into electrical signal by receiving Photo diode. Then it is given to two IC 353 and 351 which are used to amplify input analog signal. The amplified signal is available at output terminal. (4) Input Audio Amplifier section :The Input Audio amplifier circuit consists of Pre-amplifier and Output amplifier stage. This section is used to amplify low level audio signal coming from Mike/Loudspeaker and give it to ADM Modulator section for live ADM modulation. The pre-amplifier consists of one transistor Q1. Transistor Q1 (BC 148B) is connected in C-E configuration. The input signal form mike is connected to the base of Q1 through coupling capacitor 10/16 EC. The amplified audio signal obtained at the collector of Q1 is given to the output driver amplifier consisting of IC 810 at pin 10 through volume control Pot P1. The IC 810 performs the functions of the audio amplifier, driver and the output stage. The amplified signal obtained from the transistor Q1 is given at the audio input (Pin 10) of the IC. This is amplified by the IC and the output is available at the Pin 16 of the IC. The amplified output is available at pin 16 and in turn at output terminals. (5) Output Audio Amplifier Section :The IC 810 performs the functions of the audio amplifier, driver and the output stage. The amplified signal obtained from the transistor Q1 is given at the audio input (Pin 10) of the IC. This is amplified by the IC and the output is available at the Pin 16 of the IC. The feedback is given from the output to the emitter of preamplifier transistor in the IC (through a resistor 4K provided internally). The feedback voltages develops over R6(22E), C12 (220/10) being used for d.c.blocking. The gain of amplifier depends on this feed-back. The amplified output is available at pin 16 and in turn at LS terminals. 2

(6) Power supply section:The regulated power supply is used for different supply voltages. Following output D.C. Voltages are required to operate PSK Modulation demodulation system. +15V, 250mA, -15V, 250mA, + 5V, 250mA, - 5V, 500mA. Three terminal regulators are used for different output voltages i.e. IC 7805 for + 5V, IC 7815 for +15V, IC 7915 for -15V,IC 7905 for -5V. These ICs are supplied different dc input voltages by two Half wave rectifiers consisting of D1-D4 and D5-D8 and C1, C2, C3, C3. The capacitors at each input and each output are for filtering purpose. SW 301 is main AC ON/OFF Switch. **************

EXPERIMENT:-1
AIM:- To transmit sinewave signal through fiber optic link. Procedure:1. 2. 3. Set the output of audio sinewave generator to 1volt pp and 1KHz. Connect the fiber optic link between transmitter fiber LED and receiver fiber LED. Connect the CRO channel 1 to the input and CRO channel 2 to the output and measure the input and output and compare both the signal. 4. Change the amplitude and frequency of sinewave signal and see the effect of variation.

EXPERIMENTS:-2
AIM:- To transmit audio signal through fiber optic link. Procedure:1. 2. 3. 4. 5. First connect the mike to the input audio amplifier. Connect the output of audio amplifier to the input of analog transmitter. Now connect the fiber wire to output of transmitter and input of analog signal receiver. Connect the jumper between output of analog receiver and input of output audio amplifier. Adjust the gain of both the input and output amplifier until not get proper voice from speaker.
