Statewide Advanced Training Series 2012

T raining Outline The Statewide APS Training Project invites you to a dynamic, multi-disciplinary training on trauma-informed services and approaches as part of a paradigm shift toward more effective interactions and case outcomes. Special focus will be placed on the application of traumainformed approaches with challenging cases (self-neglect, substance abuse, etc.). Learning Objectives - Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to: 1. Describe trauma-informed concepts, research and resources. 2. Apply trauma-informed approaches to discussing issues related to services provision (substance abuse, anger, denial, and selfneglect). 3. Identify specific interventions when working with seniors and caregivers, especially ones who have unsafe coping strategies.

Intended Audience:
This training will emphasize advanced knowledge and practice skills and is intended for all levels of Adult Protective Services social workers, investigators, managers, supervisors, nurses, public guardian, ombudsman, behavioral health, IHSS and those in the dual APS/IHSS role.

Statewide Training for APS Workers & Partners

Trainer: Gabriella Grant, MA, trains professionals in social services on an array of topics, including trauma, substance abuse, PTSD, eating disorders, problem gambling, domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. She has worked with criminal justice agencies, the courts, social service agencies and public health departments. As a trained policy analyst, Ms. Grant looks at how understanding the neurobiological effects of trauma, safety and coping can be adapted for effective programming, staff training and policies and procedures to create a therapeutically beneficial milieu for a variety of treatment modalities and outcomes. Ms. Grant is the director of the California Center of Excellence for Trauma Informed Care, located in Santa Cruz, California and facilitates a Seeking Safety group in the community.

The Statewide Adult Protective Services Training Project is funded by an APS training grant from the California Department of Social Services, Adult Services Division. The training project is a collaboration between the Academy for Professional Excellence/Project MASTER, Central California Social Welfare Evaluation, Research & Training Center, Northern California Training Academy and the Protective Services Operations Committee (PSOC) of CWDA.

Activities included in this training: Straightforward didactic information, lecture, video, and interactive, hands-on individual, small and large group activities that capitalize on advanced knowledge and skills presented in this training.
