Introduction
I am going to introduce in the following main part in detail about Cyprus Tourism Organization including where it is situated, official organizational chart & their duties, requirements of entry, what facility this organization offer to attract the tourist.

The Cyprus Tourism Organization was established and regulates according to the provisions of the Cyprus Tourism Organization Law of 1969 1999. The organization purposes is to regulate and promote Tourism according to the law within the Republic by using all possibilities and resources available in this country.

Requirements of Entry into the Republic of Cyprus:


Documents The documentation are required varies, depending on the nationality of tourist. A valid passport is required for a stay up to 90 days for all bona fide tourists except citizens of European Union countries, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway who may enter Cyprus with their national identity card provided it bears a photo. Some non-EU third country nationals require a visa.

Legal Points of Entry Larnaca and Paphos and the ports of Larnaca, Limassol and Latsi are the legal ports of entry of republic of Cyprus which are situated in the area under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. Entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus via any other port or airport in which the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control (Turkish occupied areas) is illegal.

Travelling With a Pet If any traveler comes from an EU Member State, he/she is allowed to bring his/her pets to Cyprus provided they possess either a passport or an Animal Health Certificate. But, if he/she comes from a non-EU country, he/she also need a Vaccination Certificate (especially showing vaccination against rabies). Please also note the following: - Animals should be transported in cages made in accordance to IATA specifications. - Animals and their accompanying documents are inspected on arrival by the Veterinary Officer or by the duty Customs Officer acting on behalf of the Veterinary Services.

- Animals that fulfil the relevant veterinary provisions will be allowed to enter without being subject to quarantine. - The Veterinary Officer in charge decides on the basis of the relevant veterinary provisions whether the animal will be quarantined or not.

Tobacco: Every person entering Cyprus is allowed to carry the following duty free tobacco but not for commercial purposes, provided they are carried in the passengers' hand luggage or accompanying baggage:

Alcohol Every person entering Cyprus is allowed to carry the following duty free alcohol but not for commercial purposes, provided they are carried in the passengers' hand luggage or accompanying baggage:

10 litres of spirits 20 litres fortified wine, (such as port or sherry) 90 litres of wine (of which, a maximum of 60 litres of sparkling wine) 110 litres of beer Travellers under the age of seventeen are not allowed to duty free tobacco products and alcohol.

Agricultural products or propagating stock such as fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, dry nuts, seeds, bulbs, bulb-wood sticks, cuttings, etc are banned to import without the approval of the competent authorities.

Languages The Greek and the Turkish languages, which are mainly spoken by the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot respectively. English is widely spoken. French and German are also well spoken within the tourist industry.

Religions Cyprus enjoys an exceedingly high level of freedom of worship. While the majority of Greek-Cypriots are Greek-Orthodox Christians, other denominations are represented on the island, including Armenians, Maronites and Roman Catholics.The TurkishCypriot community is predominantly Muslim.

Currency Cyprus used to as their means of exchange by Cyprus currency. The Cyprus pound has been replaced by the Euro from the 1st of January 2008. There are seven denominations in Euro banknotes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro. They all have different colour and size, the higher the denomination, the bigger the size. One euro is divided into 100 cent. There are eight euro coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent, 1 and 2. The designs on one side of the coins are common to all the countries of the euro area, while the other side reflects national identities. All euro coins can be used in all euro area countries, irrespective of their national side.

Currency Exchange All banks operating in Cyprus offer foreign currency exchange services and quote the exchange rates of the Euro against all major foreign currencies daily. Foreign currency can also be exchanged at hotels. More detailed information concerning exchange rates can be obtained from the Central Bank of Cyprus. You can also use the currency converter.

Value Added Tax (V.A.T.) Refund Non EU foreign visitors can claim back V.A.T. on goods exported in their hand luggage. Visitors are eligible for a V.A.T. refund if: - They are not holders of a passport or other form of identification from an EU Member State. - They have not resided in Cyprus for more than 365 days in the two years immediately prior to the date of purchase of the goods, - The total purchased from one store or a chain or stores is more than 171 Euro and less than 17 100 Euro. - The goods are exported in visitors' hand luggage by the last day of the third month following the month in which the goods were purchased. In order to claim V.A.T. refund tourist will have to: - Tourist needs to make his/her purchases from shops that display a tax-free shopping sign and simply ask for his/her tax-free document. - When tourist leaving Cyprus need to show his/her purchases and passport to customs officials and have his/her tax-free document stamped. - Tourist needs to receive his/her refund in the method of his/her choice. More detailed information can be obtained from the V.A.T. Service of the Customs and Excise Department.

Cyprus Tourism Organization annual budget for 2011: President and Acting Director General of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) Alekos Orountiotis and Lefkos Phylactides respectively presented on 21st of February 2011 at the House of Representatives the basic principles of CTOs strategic plan for the period 2011 2015. The house Finance Committee focused on the significant reduction of government subsidy to CTO for 2011 compared to last year, it will considerably make more difficult to establish the CTOs purposes. They also expressed restrained optimism about the future and performance of Cyprus tourist product during 2011. The CTO expenditures and equivalent revenues for 2011 amount to 71,255,789 euros, while in 2010 the corresponding figures were 89,113,515 euros. The state subsidy for 2011 is 68,100,000 euros, significantly reduced compared to the state subsidy of the previous year which was 82,938,469 euros, while CTO revenues from its own sources in 2011 are estimated at 3,155,789 euros, also reduced compared with those of 2010 which was 6,175,046 euros. Climate and Weather Cyprus climate is mainly hot summer & mild winter. Average temperatures during the hottest months of July and August, range between 29 C on the central plain and 22 C on the Troodos Mountains. The average

maximum temperatures for these two months are 36 C and 27 C. In January, the indicative daily temperature is 10 C on the central plain and 3 C on the higher parts of the Troodos Mountains while the average minimum temperatures are 5 C and 0 C.
