ABSTRACT The researchers investigated on the paper gathered from the paper bin of the High School Department of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. They computed the papers used by the total weight of papers gathered for two weeks, one month and one school year. The results they have from their computation tells that per week, the amount of papers collected from the paper bin increases and somehow decreases in weight and amount. The researchers conducted the investigation for they have wanted this investigation to be proved to the Lourdes School of Mandaluyong community about the importance of papers for the environment. INTRODUCTION Papers are common solid waste materials that are mainly used for writing, painting, and drawing purposes. These papers are non-biodegradable wastes. Non-biodegradable wastes are garbages that does not decompose as well in or on the ground as biodegradable wastes, or papers that are commonly used inside the school are pad papers, bond papers, oslo papers, and others. The researchers study was conducted last October 10 to 14, 2011 and it was conducted in Lourdes School of Mandaluyong during the Mathematics period. The first person who was involved on the researchers investigation was their math teacher, and second are the researchers of this investigation. The researchers measured the papers weight with the weighing scale and recorded the data gathered in kilograms. The recorded results had daily and computed all the results to have the final computation of the investigation. After they have gathered the total amount of papers collected, they computed the weight of the papers collected for two weeks, one month, and one

school year. The mathematical principles used in the study are division, multiplication, and addition. The researchers conducted this investigation because they wanted the Lourdes School of Mandaluyong to be proved about the importance of papers and its use to our environment as a biodegradable waste. THE AMOUNT OF PAPERS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT The researchers collected the number of garbage. These garbages are used papers in the paper bin of each section of the High School Department of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. The researchers weighed the papers in kilograms and they got the amount of papers in two weeks, the amount in one month, and the amount in one school year by being computed. They used the mathematical principles of addition. They first added the total weight of garbages in the paper bin by the whole section. They divided it to the average of the total weight of the papers placed in the paper bin. After they computed the date, the results of the average weight of papers from the paper bin are: In two weeks which is 115.52 kilograms, in one monthe which is 231.05 kilograms, and in one school year which is 2,125.92 kilograms. The researchers gathered these data for finalization.

MATHEMATICAL INSIGHTS The researchers contributed to the huge amount of papers gathered from the paper bin of every section of the High School Department of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong for the investigation in measuring the papers weight . They computed the total weight of papers

gathered from the students in Lourdes School of Mandaluyong High School Department by bing averaged. The researchers can contribute more to the Lourdes School of Mandaluyong community by determining the positive environmental effects of the papers which is beneficial to the environment.
