My Response to Brandts Response to Unquiet Librarian " I do not fully understand Brandts statement that our economy has

manufacturing things to manufacturing symbols. The way I perceive this is that it has become more about the image of the products rather than the quality or necessity of the products, yet how this relates to literacy I do not understand at all. However, I concur that the standing or development of the country greatly depends on the citizens literacy. And in this day and age, that literacy is enhancingly technological and media based. Not necessary yet seemingly required, communication skills have greatly affected my life due to the external pressures of governments and societies, that includes local, national, and global. " There will never be enough. Locally, I fall on on this because throughout my

Personal example

high school career we were always talking about if we had the technology or if we knew how to do something. Thus, always hoping for an individual augmentation of literacy. Our school pushed literacy into our lives, obviously by reading and writing, but they went a step further - they required us to have laptops. Regardless, the schools focus on technological growth with computers, smart boards, etc. produced a growth in learning due to the fact that students could write and edit papers easier, could look up information in class, and were able to watch videos to enhance our understanding. As

one may gather, our increased literacy due to heightened requirements has also spurred a growth in our (in this case, American), economy. " Brandt says, literacy is seen less in terms of morality...and more in terms of what

it can do economically. From a government standpoint I absolutely think this is true.

Multiple perspectives

From an individuals perspective I do not agree. Regardless, it becomes clear that literacy affects the national economy. Literacy rate is one of the major aspects discerning a rst world country from a third world country. It has personally affected my life since it led to my private school education, my college education, and eventually my graduate education. Not only that, it affects the materials we buy which act as catalysts for our literacy such as laptops. Because technological literacy was advocated by the government it allowed my high school to economically benet since we had to rent our

IBMs from the school. Its like a professor writing their own book for class and charging an extremely high price for it because you have no choice but to buy it. " Though I may be jumping too far ahead of present times, it can be seen in the

future that the global aspect of communication skills will greatly affect us in the sense that we will feel pressured to learn literacies which help us survive in multiple cultures and countries. This notion was sparked due to Brandts [communication] skills can

convert into labor. One would denitely need to know the language and manneristic literacies of another country, but also their technological literacy. From an example which ties all these literacies together is that once technology evolves more people will not be carrying around translation books in other countries, but they will be carrying around phones that can do the translating. Also, different countries use different programmings that one would be pressured into learning. Personally, the global pressure has led to me taking another language and learning different cultures ways. I realized in order to get a good job I would need to know communication skills because most all large companies have international affairs. " No matter what country youre in there are always external pressures which

impact your literacies. In my case, I have strongly felt the impact of my local school showing me the increased emphasis on technology, our national government clearly correlating societies literacy to communication skills, and the global environment indirectly pressuring people into expanding their literacies in order to cope in the business world.

Overall, I stick to one idea here and explain it clearly using evidence from many sources.
