Course DesCription
What do you do now beyond your HAZOP or PHA study? If you find that the existing safeguards in a risk scenario are not enough to mitigate the risk to an acceptable level then what options do you have? Do you have to rely on subjective brainstorming sessions to determine additional safeguards? How confident are you of the integrity of your existing safeguards in your process? This course introduces the semi-quantitative risk analysis methodology called layer of protection analysis or LOPA that will help you to further analyse the existing safeguards from your HAZOP, in the form of layers of protection against an identified hazard in an objective and systematic way. When safety alarms, safety procedures, and physical safety devices are insufficient protection, safety instrumented systems are implemented as an additional layer of protection. The integrity of safety instrumented functions is further analysed by SIL analysis for which LOPA is one of the intermediate steps. This course covers HAZOP, LOPA and SIL methodologies per international industry standards

How will you benefit

This four-day course will empower you, and enable your organization through you, to identify, analyze, mitigate and monitor risks and hazards across the company, and systematically assess and manage the integrity of the protection layers. You will use state of the art risk management systems for hands-on exercises under the guidance of experienced professional instructors. You will learn how to conduct the HAZOP and LOPA facilitation and perform SIL analysis.
