1 Samuel 22:1-5
1 2 So David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam; and when his brothers and all his father's household heard of it, they went down there to him. Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them. Now there were about four hundred men with him. And David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and my mother come and stay with you until I know what God will do for me." Then he left them with the king of Moab; and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. The prophet Gad said to David, "Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah." So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.

Adullam = Justice of the people; their testimony David represented those who represented justice in the eyes of God. After your Adullam experience, you will have a testimony to tell. David was called and anointed to be king. His kingdom and destiny was veiled in the darkness of the Adullam cave. He was now a fugitive hiding in a cave from Saul who wanted to kill him. He had fallen like a seed to the ground, buried, so that he could rise again and bear much fruit. John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

A seed is exposed to the destructive forces of nature : winds, rain, heat, trodden on, out of sight, alone. We all have entered a cave at some stage in our life. Your cave could have been doubt, fear, betrayal, persecution, sickness, grief, financial trial, conflict in relationships, abuse in some form. This cave is dark, a place of confinement and imprisonment. However, there is no cave dark enough to shut out God. Sometimes we are forced to retreat into a cave so that we can protect ourselves from being destroyed. Some enter the cave because of the call of God on our lives (David), but sometimes because of our own sin. However, God will use the cave of isolation to deliver us from that which afflicts us, and to shape our character into His image and likeness as we walk into our destiny.

400 men gathered to David with the following conditions: Debt, discontented, distressed, discouraged, depressed, disillusioned, despair, dreary, down and out, damned, disheartened, degraded, demonically oppressed, dreams lost, diseased, deranged, darkened mind, derelict, disregarded, dire straits, disintergrated, doldrums devil having a ball!!

Prov 15:13 : (GW) (NASB) (CEV) (ERV) (MSG) (YLT) A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but with a heartache comes depression. A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken. Happiness makes you smile; sorrow can crush you. If you are happy, your face shows it. If you are sad, your spirit feels defeated. A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day. A joyful heart maketh glad the face, And by grief of heart is the spirit smitten.

Prov 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones. (bones give structure and form to your bodyyour life will not have shape and form if you are stuck in Adullam).

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You
will not despise.

Myles Munroe:

The devil is the prince of darkness - hes rulership is only in proportion to the degree of darkness in you (ignorance). God said my people perish, not because of the devil, but because of a lack of knowledge.

They recognized Davids grace, anointing, resourcefulness even while he was in the cave. Others came to David only after he sat on the throne. The work of wholeness in your life starts with the recognition and regard for who is your spiritual father. They know that he was to be future king, and although he was not yet crowned, they regarded him as their captain. Although not king in the land yet, they made him king in their lives first. Aside:Although the will of God for David was to govern a larger sphere, viz. the nation, his influence was limited to 400 problem-riddled people in the cave. But those men understood that his sphere of influence would ultimately be the entire nation. Eternal Sound has a significantly larger sphere of influence to impact than what we are currently enjoying. Key

principle to go to the next level is the recognition, honour and respect of your spiritual father. Davids spheres went from the CAVE to the COUNTRY. This is what apostolic people (400) are capable of doing. 1 Chron. 12:8 From the Gadites there came over to David in the stronghold in the wilderness,
mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear, and whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains.

These 400 were mighty men of war/valour who had lots of issues. But under Davids grace their own personal grace, gifts and talents reached maximum potential.

DAVIDS FOCUS AND REFLECTION WHILST IN THE ADULLAM CAVE : While in the cave, David wrote Psalms 57 and 142.He cries out from the depths of his heart as he realizes the situation he is in, yet he is steadfast that his hope and expectation is in God who will bring him through. Psalm 57
For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave Psa 57:1 Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by. Psa 57:2 I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me. Psa 57:3 He will send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who tramples upon me. Selah. God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth. Psa 57:4 My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who breathe forth fire, Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows And their tongue a sharp sword. (Negative Destructive Scandalous Talk) Psa 57:5 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth. Psa 57:6 They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They dug a pit before me; They themselves have fallen into the midst of it. Selah. Psa 57:7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! Psa 57:8 Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. Psa 57:9 will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. (David is in a small cave, but he still has NATIONS on his mind; his present trial does not diminish his vision) Psa 57:10 For Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the clouds. Psa 57:11 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

Psalm 142
Psa 142:1 Psa 142:2 Maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer I cry aloud with my voice to the LORD; I make supplication with my voice to the LORD. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare my trouble before Him.

Psa 142:3 Psa 142:4 Psa 142:5 Psa 142:6 Psa 142:7

When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path. In the way where I walk They have hidden a trap for me. Look to the right and see; For there is no one who regards me; There is no escape for me; No one cares for my soul. (He became a man of no reputation) I cried out to You, O LORD; I said, "You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living. "Give heed to my cry, For I am brought very low; Deliver me from my persecutors, For they are too strong for me. "Bring my soul out of prison, So that I may give thanks to Your name; The righteous will surround me, For You will deal bountifully with me."

He knows prophetically that many more righteous man are eventually going to surround and support him the hope of an increased sphere.

Thamo Naidoo :

When in a crisis, its an opportunity to transition into a new phase. Make the adjustment at that very moment. (Kairos comes into Chronos when there is a Crisis)

1 Samuel 22:3

And David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and my mother come and stay with you until I know what God will do for me."

David left the Adullam cave and went to Mizpah. Mizpah= elevated view; watchtower. Although we can relate it to spiritual fathers over the house having an elevated view and prophetic insight of the whole picture, in this instance we can relate it to David needing to come away out from the cave so that he can have another perspective. While you are in the cave you cannot see certain things, so you need to come out and look at your situation from a heavenly perspective. You could also share it with someone whom you trust wholeheartedly, to whom it will not just be information but who would give Godly advice and counsel.

1. "Please let my father and my mother come and stay with you. In verse 3 we see that in the midst of Davids trial, he was not self-focussed-he showed concern and care for others. Davids attitude and behavior in the Adullam cave give us keys to his success. He was not so self-absorbed in his own personal trial, that he allowed it to to erode certain non-negotiable principles.

2. `until I know what God will do for me David was prepared to wait for Gods timing, to receive power and authority as king in Gods way. He didnt push his way knowing the prophetic call on his life-he was convinced that God would do it in his perfect timing. He had many opportunities to kill Saul, but he said in Psalm 62:5: Psalm 62:5 Psalm 59:9
My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence. (KJV)

David did not know how things were going to pan out, but he did know that he was called and anointed to be king-he just had no idea how God would get him there-had to trust and obey completely! DEALING WITH ADULLAM REMNANTS: David returned to Adullam from Mizpah because he had unfinished business/ unresolved issues. All of his possessions were still there, his family, his men whom he was training. He could not proceed to any other location because he had not yet evacuated the Adullam cave. Application: No matter where we journey to in life and how much progress we have made, if we have left baggage in the Adullam cave, that dark and gloomy place, we will always return there!! (Give analogy of holiday/relocation).

David enquired of the Lord as to his next move:

1 Sam. 22: 5 The prophet Gad said to David, "Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah." So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.

God then sends the prophet Gad who tells him to get out of the cave and go to the land of Judah. He obeyed and went to the forest of Hereth. If, in the midst of your trial/ cave experience- you position your heart to hear a word from God to bring deliverance to your situation, God WILL give you direction and strategy to break free. Any word from God given directly to you or via your set man is medicinal-has a cure for whatever condition we are ailing from. We just have to walk in obedience to the principles laid out in the Word of God. David obeyed the prophet Gad even though he was telling him to go back to Judah which was Sauls stronghold. But his trust in God to lead him was so strong that he abandoned any reservations he may have had.

The land of Judah represents a specific environment or certain attitudes : David was from the tribe of Judah. In telling David to go back to the land of Judah, God was saying to him, that what is in him will only come to maximum potential if he is located in the right environment. All the principles that Judah represent will be activated within him if he is the land of Judah. Great potential is always lost because of inaccurate location. The wrong location can quench significant potential. Judah always goes first. Judah was first in rank, time and place-always positioned first in battle. Judah was the fourth son of Leah and Jacob. Judah prevails amongst his brothers whenever he spoke they always listenedeven the father listened. When he told the father to go to Egypt, he listened. When he told Joseph to keep himself in prison and let Benjamin go, he was willing to make the sacrifice, he spoke out first.
And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

Deut 33:7

Hear the voice of Judah: Speaks of having access to God and having an audience with him. Strength and skill/anointing is in his hands : Remember how David slew Goliath with a sling in his hands, he killed the bear and lion with his bare hands.
GENESIS 49:8-12 Judah, your brothers shall praise you; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your fathers sons shall bow down to you. Judah is a lions whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares rouse him up? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the rulers staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. He ties his foal to the vine, And his donkeys colt to the choice vine; He washes his garments in wine, And his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are dull from wine, And his teeth white from milk.

Judahs hand will be on the neck of the enemy : neck is symbolic of stubbornness. Like David, Caleb was also from the tribe of Judah.

Caleb =

Bold Impetuous A dog Whole-hearted, Hearty

no fear ; not easily intimidated courageous and zealous, acting forcefully and rapidly committed, loyal; knows his masters voice and smell Gives His all, serves wholeheartedly

Caleb was one of the leaders in Judah sent to spy out the land in Canaan with 11 others. 10 came back with a negative report after they saw the giants and the large fortified city> Caleb comes back with a confident report despite the reality of what he saw. Numb 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. No Delay

Silences Doubt

Unity- Corporate Overcome

Unity - Corporate

He was not intimidated by what he saw. Rose up in strength and confidence. Joshua 14:11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my
strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

What was key to Calebs victory ?

Num 14:24 "But My servant Caleb, because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it.

1) He had a SERVANTs heart. God calls him MY servant. He was Gods servant, not the peoples servant. His desire was to serve the purposes of God to the best of his ability. He wanted the land conquered so that Gods plan for Israel could be accomplished. He wanted Hebron personally because Moses promised him. But his personal desire was really for the corporate benefit of the whole nation. Those with servants heart in the house will not simply wants things personally, but will always act privately to benefit the corporate house.

2) He had a different spirit. He did not conform to the prevailing spirit of defeat and negatively. He embodied everything that Judah represented. He was willing to be DIFFERENT and stand out. 3) He followed God fully He held onto the prophetic word he received 40 years before from Moses meditated on it, engraved in his heart. All our solutions are in the word, but we will only know what to do when we know what the word says about it. 4) He was concerned about the next generation.
and his descendants shall take possession of it. Our children and their destinies should be a great spur and activating power for us to overcome our mountains NOW. Deal with your Adullam NOW so that your DESCENDANTS can walk in victory 15 years from today.

David refused to be intimidated by Goliath- his brothers tried to stop him-but he declares in 1 Sam 17:46 ..I will strike you down and remove your head from you- Judah anointing. We too are a Judah-type company - let us embrace this Judah disposition and imbibe all it stands for. We have the heavenly DNA to overcome.

Lets take a firm stand against past issues and not allow it to persist, grow and control us any longer. We must not be intimidated by the enemy and what he hurls at us in accusation! Your greatest enemy is the principalities in people and not the devil himself personally. Learn to look at the spirit/demonic source behind a negative comment than to look at the persons face and take on a personal vendetta against the person. Dont look back at past failures, shortcomings, dont dread the possibility of recurring patterns of sin-take your stand, look up and decree- no more, the buck stops here! I will walk in total liberty and freedom from the past and walk with joy and freedom into my destiny! I will stand in the strength of the Lord and not my own strength. I will confer recognition on my brothers around me and prefer them- its not about me. In conclusion, when you feel the need to draw aside from the crowd because of pressing issues, run to the SECRET PLACE , THE HIDING PLACE in God,and not the Adullam cave!

Psalm 81:7

"You called in trouble and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

The cave has been evacuated, but the secret place of the Lord most High is saturated with the presence of the Godhead- waiting to enfold, cover, protect, comfort, embrace and just hold you in his loving arms while He tells you what to do next! David eventually was crowned king, ruled and reigned victoriously in the nation. But only after dealt with the deficiencies of himself and his men.

TODAY IS EVACUATION DAY!! VICTORY IS OURS!!
