Wolf 207 South Blaine Street Moscow, ID 83843 (307) 431-2259 September 22nd, 2011 Name Adresss, st. City, state zip code Dear so and so: I am highly interested in the position of Biological Sciences Teacher at Worland High School. I would be a great asset to the school and its students due to my education, diverse working experience, and numerous multicultural experiences. I attended the University of Idaho from 2010-2015 where I received a bachelors degree in biological sciences, a minor in Spanish, a natural sciences certification, and a secondary education certification. It was here that I found my passion for the biological sciences. Through my own knowledge and experience I hope to inspire the next generation of doctors, researchers, and natural resource managers. I also had an education abroad. Before attending the University of Idaho, I spent a year as a Rotary International Exchange Student in Ambato, Ecuador. I was faced with the challenges of learning a new language, adjusting to a new culture, and succeeding in school without a strong background in the language. This experience gives me a unique perspective on the struggles of migrant students. I will go out of my way to make sure they succeed, I promise. Once I overcame the challenge of adjusting to the Ecuadorian lifestyle, doors started opening for me. I volunteered with a team of North American doctors as a medical translator and had my first experience as a teacher, working as an ESL teacher at two different schools with diverse age groups. I traveled the country, spending time climbing volcanoes, volunteering with indigenous communities, snorkeling in the Galapagos, and taking canoe rides down the Rio Napo, in the Amazon Rainforest. I only tell you things because, as a biology teacher, it is useful to have some experiences and stories that will make students interested in the subjects of medicine, conservation, ecology, and biology in general. In order to fund my exchange and my education at the University of Idaho, I worked as a Wildland Firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management every summer from 2009-2015. Here I worked with specialists in fire ecology, archeology, forestry, wildlife biology, botany, and policy making. Im honored to say that my overhead trusted me with positions such as squad boss, lead firefighter, and incident commander type 5, through which I was able to hone my leadership skills. I learned important lessons in conflict resolution, decision making, improvisation, and communication. Though I am not without fault, I did my best to learn these things quickly because I knew not doing so could put my crew-members in unnecessary danger. In my experience these skills carry over to the classroom because, as a teacher, lacking these skills may not immediately endanger the lives of your students, but not having these essential classroom management skills can adversely impact their futures as students, individuals, and professionals. I do not, in any way, undervalue the impact I can have on the lives of students.

I see the above as evidence enough of my ability to lead, motivate, and work hard. I will not turn down any worthwhile challenge or opportunity with which I am presented, and would appreciate your consideration for the position of Biological Sciences Teacher at Worland High School. If you would like to contact me you can reach me at (307) 431-2259 or via e-mail at wolf9203@vandals.uidaho.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
