Abstract: Twenty-four cases of juvenile pseudomyopia were corrected by puncturing Jingming (BL 1)
on the affected side, Hegu (LI 4) and Fengchi (GB 20) on the both side, and then moving both eyeballs in a rotary route. After 42 affected eyes were treated, 32 eyes were cured, 6 eyes were markedly effective, 2 eyes were improved, 2 eyes were ineffective and the total effective rate was 95.2%. Key Words: Acupuncture Therapy; Myopia Juvenile pseudomyopia has been an major problem at present in the prevention and health works of the eyes among the middle and primary school students since the recent several years. The author treated 24 cases of pseudomyopia by acupuncture and the rotary exercise. It was reported as follows. BL 1

Clinical Materials
Among 24 cases, 16 cases were male and 8 cases were female; the courses of the disease were between 2 weeks and 10 months; the vision of 42 eyes were all below 0.25.

Therapeutic Methods 1. Acupuncture

Acupoints: Jingming (BL 1, Fig. 1) on the affected side, Hegu (LI 4) and Fengchi (GB 20, Fig. 2) on both sides. Manipulation: The filiform needles of 0.30 mm in diameter and 25 mm in length were used. The patient was asked to close eyes. The doctor pushed gently the patient's eyeball to the lateral side and fixed it with the right thumb, held the needle to puncture the tip of the needle quickly into Jingming (BL 1) with the left hand without twirling or lifting. Then the needle was inserted

After the needle was withdrawn, the doctor pressed the local acupuncture position for 2 min with the finger for preventing bleeding. The needles were remained on Hegu (LI 4) and Fengchi (GB 20) for 15 min, after punctured. During the needles were remained, the needling manipulations, which moved and twirled the handle of the needle slightly for 2 min with the frequency of 150-170 times per minute and with the tenseness, heaviness, slight soreness and distention feelings on the deep position of the point, were applied for 2-3 times. Acupuncture was applied once everyday and 1 course of treatment consisted 7 days.

2. Therapeutic effects Among the 42 affected eyes of 24 cases in this group, 32 eyes were cured, 6 eyes were markedly effective, 2 eyes were improved, 2 eyes were ineffective and the total effective rate was 95.2%. 3. Case report A male patient of 14 years old first visited for the vague vision of his two eyes for 3 months in Aug. 1999. His naked visions of both eyes were 0.2, conjunctiva didn't congest, cornea was transparent, fundus oculi showed that the boundary of optic papilla was clear, the proportion of retinal arteries and reins was normal, and the light reflection of the center of macula retina was normal. 0.5% tropicamide eye drops was used to drop the eyes once every 5 min for 4 times. After 20 min, the visions of two naked eyes were examined again and were 1.0. He was diagnosed as juvenile pseudomyopia. The patient was treated by the above methods for 1 course of treatment, and then the visions of two naked eyes were examined again and were 1.0. After the rest of 3 days, the treatment was given once every other day. After the acupuncture was applied for 5 times, the therapeutic effects was stabilized and gat the clinical cured. He was asked to pay attention to the hygiene of utilizing his eyes, correct the ill habit of utilizing his eyes and insist on doing the rotary exercise two times everyday. After 3 months, he visited again and the visions of two naked eyes were normal. Realizations
The important cause of juvenile pseudomyopia is utilizing the eyes excessively, leading to the spastic constriction of the ciliary muscle. Jingming (BL 1), Hegu (LI 4) and Fengchi (GB 20) were punctured to dredge the meridians, relieve the spasm of the ciliary muscle and make the vision recover. The main intention of the rotary exercise is to exercise the functions ofextro-ocular muscle and ciliary muscle, assist and speed up the recovery of the vision, stabilize the therapeutic effects and prevent the recurrence.

2. Rotary exercise First, covering the visual lines between the two eyes respectively with two eye shields ( 3 5 cm, lighttight paper or plastic piece made by self) prepared in advance. The patient should rotate the eyeballs clockwise and try his best to look clearly and absorbedly at the scenery
around the eyes for 5 min. Then, the patient stood of emmetropai, relaxed all his muscles, outspreaded his right ann naturally towards left side, shook the fingers, kept the head on the position of emmetropai, looked emphatically at the shaken fingers (stopped after counted silently 40 numbers) and did the same on the opposite side. Afterward, the patient withdrew the arm and was of emmetropai at the scenery before the eyes (stopped after counted silently 20 numbers) to relax the eyes for a moment. The above movements were repeated.

Therapeutic Results 1. Criteria of therapeutic effect Cure: Vision> 1.0 after 1-2 courses of the treatment. Marked effectiveness: Vision> 0.5 after 2 courses of the treatment. Effectiveness: Vision> 0.25 after 2 courses of the treatment. Ineffectiveness: Vision had no improvement or descended after 2 courses of the treatment.
