organization; relay information within the business; or deal with legal and similar issues. It is also a means of relaying between a supply chain, for example the consumer and manufacturer. Business Communication is known simply as "communications". Business Communication can also refer to internal communication.

Types of business communication

Knowing the different types of business communication is important for using the right type at the right moment. The following are the different types of business communication. VERBAL COMMUNICATION:

Verbal communication is a type of communication that involves use of words for communicating.

Verbal communication is made through words, either spoken or written. Communication through spoken words is known as oral communication, which may be in the form of lectures, meetings, group discussions, conferences, telephonic conversations, radio message etc. In written communication, message is transmitted through written words in the form of letters, memos, circulars, notices, reports, manuals, magazines, handbooks, etc.
Spoken communication Spoken communication is probably the most important form of communication in business. Instructions are passed on, feed-back is received, and relationships formed using the spoken word. Sometimes spoken communication, a form of verbal communication, and non-verbal communication, such as tone of voice, body language, etc, overlap. Sometimes the meaning of what someone says can change completely when a different tone of voice is adopted. In customer relations, especially, it is imperative to be aware that tone of voice, intonation, and body language play an important part in communicating. In customer service, the words coming out of your mouth need to be accurate, undeniably clear, leaving no room for ambiguity and the tone of your voice, body language, and intonation need to communicate confidence, empathy, and understanding. Written communication Written communication in business is mostly used in internal matters. Instructions from top management, ideas, forums, and nearly all proposals are best communicated through e-mail. E-mail communication is preferred to spoken communication in business because spoken communication can easily be misunderstood, forgotten, and misinterpreted. When people write, there is less of a margin for error in communication. E-mails can be carefully written, edited, and scrutinized to make sure the message is incorruptibly clear. E-mails provide the receiver with a guide they can refer back to for facts.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION:

Non-verbal communication is a mode of communication which only majorly uses body language and various other physical gestures as a means for communicating. This refers to speaking and dealing with assholes. Non-verbal communication may be Visual, Aural or Gestural. Sometimes you look into some pictures, graphs, symbols, diagrams etc. and some message is conveyed to you. All these are different forms of visual communication. For example, the traffic policeman showing the stop sign, a teacher showing a chart of different animals are visual communication. Bells, whistles, buzzers, horns etc. are also the instruments through which we can communicate our message. Communication with the help of these type of sounds is called 'aural' communication. Communication through the use of various parts of the human body, or through body language is termed as gestural communication.
Visual communication For centuries, visual communication has been essential to business all around the world in communicating messages to their target audiences. In recent times with the invention of the television, photographs, and the internet, visual communication has become that much more important in advertising. A picture is worth a thousand words. People remember over 60% of what they see and less than 25% of what they hear. Using images, graphics, and videos to convey a message is one of the smartest ways to get your target audience interested in your companys products and services. Visual communication is not only limited to advertising. Graphs and tables are forms of visual communication that are essential in the internal communication of facts, statistics, financial matters, and market trends. Body language On a more essential note, body language is a kind of non-verbal communication that an individual should master if he or she wants to be taken seriously in the business world. The corporate world is a highly competitive world where communication is a big part of getting ahead. Sometimes you may say all the right things, but your body language is saying something totally different. For example, while in a meeting with a prospective business partner, if you say your company is the best in the market, but you squeak out the sentence while in a slouch, you could be killing your chances of getting business from whoever you are talking to. Confident and expressive body language complements good verbal communication to give you a huge advantage in the business world.
