INTRODUCTION

The most important technologies considered in present field of electronics and communication are automation, power saving and cost effectiveness. Automation is needed to reduce manpower with intelligent energy saving system. The most important problems faced are the misuse of electricity and its wastage. Sometimes due to carelessness of the authorities and the workers lamps are left ON which results in wastage of electricity. Our project helps to overcome all these problems. In this project we are considering three main aspects of the college which are: Opening and closing of main gate Controlling of lights Ringing of college interval after every lecture Display of certain information on LCD

Brief Description

LDR: The output of LDR is given as input to the signal conditioning circuit the output of which is given to microcontroller on input side to control the state of lamps. MICROCONTROLLER: It processes the calculated digital values by converting it to ASCII & sends it to the LCD display in order to display the data. Also depending upon the setting at the input, it controls the output

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY: As the name suggests, it is used for displaying purpose. It displays the current date, time and messages given by microcontroller. RELAY: it is used as switch to switch on and off the lights.

SCHEMATIC

WORKING

Firstly at around 8.00AM gate is opened by running the motor driven by a motor driver operated by the Microcontroller. At around 8.30am the lights are switched on depending upon the output of the LDR and the lights remain functional till the college remains open.

After the end of every lecture i.e. after every 50 minutes buzzer is sounded to indicate completion of lecture and correspondingly the message is displayed on LCD.

The gate remains open for about 11 hours and so around 6.30 pm a buzzer is sounded to indicate closure of the gate and alert the persons still inside. The gate is then closed at 7.00pm and three of the four lamps are switched off.

One lamp is kept on throughout the night. In the morning the remaining lamp is switched off as the depending upon the signal sent by the light dependent resistor to the Microcontroller.

These are the step involved in the operation of the circuit. Microcontroller is used to supervise the actions of all other devices and to control the entire set of operations.

Planning Of Work
First the circuit diagram as shown in schematic is designed on PCB using ORCAD software. Then the components are mounted on PCB as shown in circuit diagram. After completion of Hardware circuitry software part is considered and for that programming is done using MPLAB software. After completion of program, the program is burnt on PIC 16F877A using PICKIT2.

APPLICATIONS
This small scale project can be implemented in any college, industry, shopping mall or any other working place. This helps in proper utilization of the available resources and helps in avoiding wastage of electricity and it also provides information through LCD.
