Objectives of the course: 1. To introduce students to the elements of fiction as they may be found in a selection of short stories and novels coming from the non-Western world. 2. To teach students how to appreciate the thematic and formal qualities of modern non-Western fiction. 3. To teach students to make informed and incisive analyses of individual works as well as to come up with sytheses for each regional literature. 4.
