The Connections Checklist Read Me First! section of this guide is a list of ideas to keep in mind when you set out to perform your connections. It is designed to help us not-so-technicallyadvanced individuals. If you read this section, and cant identify the plugs, connectors, and components you have, do not be afraid to seek help.

RF Connectors

1) Refer to the connection instructions in the users guide for each component you plan to connect. They will provide more detailed information about their products, and they will tell you what plugs and cables are required. 2) Most A/V input jacks and plugs are color coded: Yellow plugs are Video connections Red plugs are for Right Audio connections White plugs are Left Audio (Mono) connections 3) Perform one hookup at a time. If you have many accessories to connect, make sure each connection is correct by checking to see that it works properly before attempting the next connection. (For example, always start with the RF or Cable connections, make sure it works, then move on to video or VCR connections.) 4) Unplug the power cord between each connection. 5) Each jack on the back of the TV is labeled. If you read these instructions and still do not fully understand the connections process, seek assistance. 6) The IR Mouse lets TV Guide Plus+ control your cable box and/or your VCR. You must place the transmitter of the IR Mouse in front of the corresponding window on the cable box or VCR. 7) The AV Compu Link Cable is supplied with the JVC device which you want to connect. If you do not have one, but you do have a JVC Compu Link capable VCR or HiFi, contact your local JVC dealer.

TV Guide Plus+ requires a certain hookup to properly function. It requires that the TV, the VCR, and the cable box be connected in a certain, specic manner. We have provided very specic diagrams on the next 5 pages. Please follow them exactly in order to insure that TV Guide Plus+ works properly.

CABLE & ANTENNA CONNECTIONS

There are three basic types of antenna or cable hookups. #1. If you have an antenna, or have a cable TV system that does not require you to utilize a cable box, follow diagram #1 (this page). #2. If you have a cable system that requires you to use a cable box to tune any or all channels use diagram #2 (next page). #3. If you have a video output on your cable box, refer to diagram #3 (next page).

#1 No Cable Box Required

1) Connect cable or antenna wire out from wall, in to splitter RF input. 2) Connect wire out from splitter RF output, in to TV RF input. 3) Connect wire out from splitter RF output, in to VCR RF input. NOTES: A) In order for TV Guide Plus+ to control the VCR, put one IR Mouse in front of the remote control infrared receiver window of the VCR. END OF SETUP
1. A screen telling you that TV Guide Plus+ will be ready for use within 24 hours appears. Make sure that you turn the cable box ON and the VCR OFF. If you have a system with a cable box, make sure you change the VCR channel back to where you normally watch or record from the cable box (typically Channel 03 or 04.) 2. Press the BLUE button to exit setup. 3. Turn the TV off. 4. Data downloading usually takes less than 15 minutes. However, on some cable systems, this download may take as much as two hours.

NOTE: If you do not have a cable box, you can watch TV while the Host Search and Download are in progress. Also, note that TV Guide Plus+ will not be available until the Host Search and download functions are complete. Refer to page 23 for TV Guide Plus+ messages.

CHANNEL MAPPING
After the data for TV Guide Plus+ is set up, a channel map has been created. If there is more than one cable company servicing your local area, the Host Search will yield the Channel Mapping Screen which will appear the rst time you press the GUIDE/TV button. Essentially, TV Guide Plus+ is asking you to complete the host search by identifying which cable company you use. Identify your cable company by conrming which stations actually are found on the channel numbers indicated by TV Guide Plus+.

CHANNEL MAPPING
The Channel Mapping Screen may appear the rst time you turn on TV Guide Plus+, after the Initial Setup download, if the channel map is not identied.

1. Determine which channels the stations displayed are on (as in this example FAM and WGN). 2. Press GREEN or to move the cursor left, YELLOW or to move the cursor right. 3. Press BLUE for Select when the cursor is on the proper channel numbers.
NOTE: If you do not know at what channel number the listed stations are found, press the round EXIT button on the remote, go to those channels to check the channel numbers, and then come back to TV Guide Plus+ (by pressing the GUIDE/TV button) to complete the setup.

SOME VERY IMPORTANT FINAL WORDS ON TV GUIDE PLUS+

NOTE 1: TV Guide Plus+ automatically includes up to 50 channels in the guide. See page 33 TV Guide Plus+ Channel Editor if you have a cable system with more than 50 channels or to customize the list to your level of cable service. NOTE 2: If the channels are O.K., but there are no listings of programs, or there are only partial listings, dont worry, you just need more data. The time for the next data download is displayed in the blue information box (upper right corner of TV Guide Plus+ screen when you tune a channel that says, No Listing). NOTE 3: If you use a Cable Box the TV Power must be OFF in order for the data download to work.

Some Sound Advice You can tell if a program is broadcast in stereo by the position of the ON AIR arrow in the MTS menu. Unfortunately, it is common for some cable companies to squash the transmission of stereo programs to mono because they only have mono equipment. If your TV is connected to a cable system, the sound is at the mercy of that cable company if they broadcast in mono, you receive mono sound regardless of the original stereo programming. Fortunately, most programs that are broadcast in stereo are aired on the major television networks. If you connect your TV to an antenna instead of cable, and set the Tuner Mode in the Auto Tuner Setup to Air instead of Cable, you will be able to pick up stereo broadcasts in stereo.
