Our Experience We have more than 50 years experience in designing switchgear system from a technical brief. In ABB Australia Sydney ofce, our world renowned research & development and technical team have produced IEC and AS switchgear designs accepted globally, i.e.

Applications Users can select GenCB as an outdoor engineered generator e-house or as stand-alone UniGear ZVC switchboard with generator circuit breaker, fused contactor feeder, earth switch, fault current limiter and/or bus duct.
Standards and Quality GenCB fulls the requirements of many standards ANSI C37.013, IEC 62271-100 and IEC 62271-200.
Have you paid for excessive system standard short circuit ratings just to standardise switchgear design? What a waste of investment, but there is a more economical solution. The engineered solution is short circuit coordination, in which the current withstand properties of all the power system equipment are congured in such a way that they cannot be damaged by dynamic forces. Calculation can be performed to provide evidence that dynamic, breaking and making current is within switchgear limits.
SyncMachineCB E-House package is inclusive of project management, design engineering, products, equipment installation, interface cabling, factory testing and pre-commissioning, all delivered in a complete transportable synchronous machine substation building. Engineering Calculations The suitability of synchronous machine circuit breaker is subject to designer engineering calculations. The checklist data schedule must be completed and submitted to permit detail analysis. A report is provided as prove of calculation and analysis using ABB NEPLAN software.
SynchMachineCB Switchboard Switchboard panels are type tested with classication IAC AFLR 50kA (...1sec), modular, extendible and very compact. All local operations are behind closed compartment doors for safety reasons. Panels are type tested to withstand the effects of internal arc faults ensuring protection to the operators, adjacent compartments and cubicles. The main bus compartments are partitioned to contain the effects of fault arc blast, poisonous gasses and pressure wave to zones. This limits damages to selected zones, reduces replacement parts, downtime and cost of ownership.
Earth Switch Earth switch is tted with manual snap-action operating mechanisms for positive high-speed closing and dimensioned to conduct the rated short circuit making current when closed under load. On request the earth switch can be tted with motor racking mechanism for remote HV earthing outside arc ash boundary, i.e. in central control room.
Current Transformer Secondary current is normally 5 or 1A, and is dependant on protection relay and cable length. 5A is generally for distances 10m, whereas 1A for longer distances. The losses due to wire resistance are 25 times higher at 5A.
Synchronous Machine Circuit Breaker Synchronous Machine circuit-breakers are switchgear in the high current connection between synchronous machine and network. The electrical requirements on synchronous machine circuit breakers are higher in many respects than for breakers in the network. These requirements are specied in the (unique in the world) "IEEE" C37.013 standard in detail (ANSI). Withdrawable maintain or replace breaker in 5 mins. ABB is one of the very few withdrawable synchronous machine circuit breaker manufacturers. The circuit breaker is tted with motor racking mechanism for remote HV Isolation outside arc ash boundary, i.e. in central control room. Withdrawable feature makes separate disconnector unnecessary. The withdrawal or HV isolation construction effectively means requirement of separate disconnector switch is unnecessary. In the isolated position, the circuit disconnection can be clearly seen through an inspection window on the cover of the compartment door.
Voltage Transformer Withdrawable HV fused voltage transformer with secondary voltage 100V or 110V. The voltage factor is determined by the maximum service voltage, the type of neutral and earthing condition of the primary circuit of the transformer.
Surge Arrester Protect the synchronous machine and network against atmospheric and switching overvoltages. Metal-oxide surge arresters are produced with a polymer housing made of silicone. The arresters are extremely resistant against overload, thus preventing explosions and damage to other equipment in the near vicinity.
Current Limiting Fuses Typically HRC fused feeder powers the static excitation system. In the event of external fault, the fuses will interrupt high short circuit current and high DC% offset fault current contribution from both Synchronous Machine and network.

HRC fuses breaking current One fuse per phase Parallel fuse per phase Disconnector dynamic current Earth switch breaking current Design HRC fuses are current limiting and 63 kA is the prospective current. Actual fault current is limited by the fuse to 12 kA. Combination fuses, disconnector and earth switch will see 12 kA fault current. Current limiting fuse must be installed in series, on either side of the contactor and earth switch. Fuses do not discriminate current ow direction. 63 kA 63 kA 82 kA 31.5 kA
Bus Duct Connection to synchronous machine, network and synchronous machine circuit breaker can be with bus duct or cables.

Disconnector Link ABB is one of the very few withdrawable isolator link manufacturers. In the test/withdrawn position, the circuit disconnection can be clearly see through an inspection window on the compartment door.
Continuous Temperature monitoring SyncMachineCB can be equipped with temperature (hot spots) remote monitoring system to protect against electrical re caused by over-heating.
Fault Current Limiter (FCL) Utility companies commonly have strict rules where any industrial generating plant must maintain zero contribution short circuit levels to the Utility network. FCL solves short-circuit problems in new and extension plants. The peak short-circuit current will never be reached as fault current is limited at very rst current rise.
Continuous Insulation monitoring SyncMachineCB can be equipped with partial discharge remote monitoring system to guard against ashover due to insulation aging.
DC Control Power System SyncMachineCB can be equipped with DC batteries and charger cubicle to provide control and tripping power. Technical Data
